Rihanna seemingly hinted that her music career had come to an end at a recent event. In a video that has gone viral online, the Fenty Beauty founder stated that she felt like the music industry opened doors for her to find her true purpose. This comes months after the singer explicitly stated that she had not retired from singing.
X user @gabgonebad took to X to share a short video of Rihanna on November 8, 2024, where she stood behind a music booth and shared that she believed “God had other plans” for her. The mother of two said:
“In this industry like, for music. And I would say music got me attention but God had other plans for me and I was able to create in ways that were very sincere and genuine and organic, authentic, to the things that I love, it doesn’t even feel like a job.”
The tweet had amassed over 20 million views at the time of writing this article. Several netizens took to the internet to react to her, seemingly hinting that she was bidding adieu to her music career.
However, one X user took a dig at her and said:
"Sounds like she's trying to do damage control before the Diddy list, the Epstein list, and God knows what else is made public. She made her bed, time to sleep in it."
The user was referring to infamous rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs being arrested on s*x crime charges and allegations of Rihanna attending his nefarious parties. However, it is worth noting that there is no evidence of the Barbadian attending any of his events at the time of writing this article.
Several others expressed similar sentiments with comments reading:
“Lmao it’s too late. It’s all coming out, honey,” an X user said.
“The whole industry needs a reality check and I think it’s coming,” another platform user said.
“I feel like a lot of people are going to be coming out and saying they found God recently. A lot more going to say they’ve been victims this whole time,” a netizen said.
Meanwhile, others took to the social networking site to claim that her supposed retirement was well-deserved.
“And that’s perfectly fine,” a netizen said.
“In all fairness, Fenty is one of the best celebrity brands out there,” a fan said.
“She tryna tell yall that she not releasing any music baby,” an X user commented.
Last year, Rihanna teased fans about her possibly creating new music after performing at the Super Bowl while pregnant. Meanwhile, other reactions read
“I just think we should be happy to see her happy. People gonna always make music. We just can’t keep expecting one person to satisfy that craving,” an internet user said.
“She wanna be a wife and a mother full time. Good for her, she’s got enough money and fame to last a lifetime,” an X user said.
“I have been working on the album for so long”- Rihanna said she was working on new music in June
While speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of her Fenty Hair launch event, she addressed her viral “I’m Retired” t-shirt, which she wore while getting paparazzied earlier this year. She opined in June that people get “triggered” by the word “retired.” The Work singer then stated that she was “starting over” and was rediscovering things. Rihanna then said:
“I am here, clocked in. I have been working on the album for so long that I kind of just put all that stuff aside. Now that I’m prepared, I’m going to start over. But I don’t want to neglect the songs that I have. So I want to actually go back and listen to stuff with new ears and then see what applies and what I’m still in love with.”
She then confirmed that she had not “retired” and was “looking into the future.”
Meanwhile, Rihanna made headlines for promoting her Fenty Skin Butta Drop Whipped Oil Body Cream on the Fenty Instagram accounts.
