American rapper Lil Wayne recently appeared on rapper Cordae’s brand-new single Saturday Mornings, released on July 24. He was featured on the track's second verse, where he solidified his “greatest of all time” or GOAT status.
“I need more real love and less fake laughs…/ Need less yes-men and more amen’s/ I’ma need more real players and less praying hands…/ You standing on business, I’m a businessman / I’m the G.O.A.T., n**ga, you a sacrificial lamb,” Lil Wayne rapped.
In the wake of this new-viral guest lyrics on Cordae’s latest rap number, fans of the New Orleans rapper are celebrating him. An X user commented on hip-hop influencer @big_business’ repost of the Saturday Mornings music video and claimed that Lil Wayne was as amazing as he was two decades back.
“Yo, why is he still rapping as good as he was 20 years ago. It's insane,” the user wrote.
Several others joined the conversation and shared a similar opinion, lauding his consistency and effortlessness over the years.
“Weezy never left, he let the next-gen try it out. Sadly, there's still no one he can really hand it to. They not hungry enough,” a fan wrote.
“AND U KNOW WHAT’S CRAZY!!!!! HE’S NOT EVEN TRYING… BEST RAPPER TO EVER DO IT!” another fan wrote.
“Weezy Don’t Miss. ‘Jelly Jam… Honey Glazed Ham.’ This dude is from outer space. He's 30 years in the GAME!!!!” one fan wrote.
Others hailed the superior level of his “bars.”
“Wayne got bars buried somewhere for safe keeping… he just keeps digging,” a person wrote.
“I miss these kinda Weezy bars, I’m glad he doing good,” another person wrote.
Some claimed they eagerly anticipated such lyrics/performances from Lil Wayne, adding they wouldn’t mind more of them.
“This the Weezy I been waiting on,” a netizen wrote.
“Aye, I’ll be a fan even if I get 20 more of these type joints,” one individual wrote.
Notably, Saturday Mornings is the first single from Cordae’s forthcoming and third studio LP, The Crossroads, which he teased on Instagram earlier this week. Its music video is produced by Smoko Ono and BoogzDaBeast and directed by APLUS.
Cordae and Weezy have previously collaborated on the former’s 2022 single Sinister from the album From a Birds Eye View.
Eminem claimed his GOAT status recently, much like Lil Wayne
According to the “Top 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time” list by Billboard and VIBE, Jay-Z holds the top spot, followed by Kendrick Lamar and Nas at number 2 and 3, respectively.
Lil Wayne is at number 7, while Detroit rapper Eminem is at number 5. Notably, Eminem also rapped about his GOAT status, much like the former, in his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace).
On the second single, titled Tobey, featuring Big Sean and Baby Tron and named after actor Tobey Maguire, Eminem rapped:
“Tobey Maguire got bit by a spider, me? / Must’ve got bit by a goat (Yeah)/ I used to dream as a kid I would grow (Baa) to be one/ I hope that I inspire hope (For What?)/ For you to go get what you desire most (Yeah)…”
In the line, “Ain’t feelin’ your top five favorite rappers (Woo),” he also took a dig at the “Top 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time” list and claimed it was a “mystery” how “rappers I’ve already ripped” could be “higher up on a list than me.” Eminem also claimed that it was “fine” but “hilarious” and declared himself a “legend.”
Meanwhile, Lil Wayne is preparing for his upcoming album, Tha Carter VI. Some of his last projects include a remix with Ciara, a feature on Chris Brown's single How We Roll, and his greatest hits album, I Am Music, all of which dropped between March and November 2023. He also dropped a mixtape titled Tha Fix Before Tha VI last year.
