On August 26, 2024, Nicki Minaj sent her fans into a frenzy after she revealed the release date for the deluxe version of her fifth studio album Pink Friday 2. The rapper took to Instagram to announce Pink Friday 2: Gag City Reloaded will be released on streaming platforms on September 13, 2024, while she will be in the midst of her North American tour.
Fans were ecstatic to hear this news from her. However, Nicki Minaj landed in hot water after her seemingly rude response to a fan's enquiry about when she would release the album cover. Minaj responded saying:
Her response did not sit well with many fans, who criticized the rapper for her hostile retort to a supposedly simple question about the album cover release. One person tweeted:
Many agreed with this sentiment, accusing Nicki Minaj of being disrespectful and snarky.
"Literally no need to be disrespectful you weirdo," one person criticized.
"Mind you, you a artist providing a service and they are a consumer with a right to question what’re you being snarky for," another person questioned.
"You’re so weird… they asked a simple question and u getting mad," someone else commented.
Some wondered if Nicki Minaj's cover art release will be made to coincide with any announcement from Cardi B or Megan Thee Stallion, her fellow rappers with whom she has often been in feud.
"“Whenever I want to” aka whenever cardi and Meg make an announcement," one fan speculated.
"Oh nicki you not playing today.. lemme put my phone down to avoid a stray," added another person.
"Okay queen bit uncalled for though," another netizen wrote.
"(Mental note) do not ask @NICKIMINAJ stupid questions because you will get clocked," someone else noted.
The X user @bussboddy, who originally asked about the album cover art also responded to Nicki Minaj's tweet.
"I didn't say nothing wrong + English is my 3 language + it's just a question frm a fan that love and support you +f**k you," they wrote.
Nicki Minaj hinted at recording a song that will soon become a fan favorite
Along with sharing the release date for the deluxe version of Pink Friday 2, Nicki Minaj also gave fans a sneak peek into a new song she has been recording. The rapper hyped the track up, promising her fans that it would be in the top 5 of their favorite songs from her current era.
"Well, Barbz- Didn’t really want to have to speak on this but I just can’t stay quiet about it any longer. Last night, I recorded what will probably be your favorite song on the deluxe. It will immediately go into your TOP 5 of the entire PF2 era. OH MY FREAKING GOODNESSWDRFFHJKGV," she tweeted.
Nicki Minaj will resume touring in a week and the rapper will travel across North America on the second leg of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour. She is slated to perform in 21 cities, including New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas and Miami, between September 4 and October 11. Skillibeng, Tyga and BIA are expected to join Minaj across North America.
Nicki Minaj recently wrapped up the European leg of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour on July 14. The tour was to promote her fifth studio album Pink Friday 2, which came out on December 8, 2023. The album was designed as a sequel to her debut LP Pink Friday, released in 2010.
