Fans were stunned when it was announced that Tate McRae would be ineligible for the category of Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys. Moreover, her song Greedy will also not be nominated for Song of the Year at the 2025 Grammys.

Firstly, she was disqualified from the Best New Artist category because she had already made three submissions in the category in the last three years. Although there is no limit to the number of releases, the Screening Committee has the discretion to decide if the artist has achieved a prominent breakthrough before the eligibility year.

Coming to Song of the Year, Tate McRae will be ineligible because Greedy was released on September 15, 2023. However, the eligibility period for the Grammy nomination began on September 16, 2023, i.e., a day after Greedy's release. Thus, it will not be nominated for Song of the Year.

However, Greedy was extremely successful upon release and peaked at number one on both the Canadian Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200 charts. Moreover, it grabbed the number 3 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 list, making it the singer's first song to hit single digits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

The song was released along with an accompanying music video on September 15, 2023. Directed by Aerin Moreno, the setting features a hockey arena and Tate McRae is seen wearing a hockey glove and driving an ice surfacer. At present, the music video has over 145 million views on YouTube.

McRae's Greedy also won Single of the Year at the Juno Awards 2024.
