Taylor Swift performed at the Friends Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, from May 17, 2024, to May 19, 2024, as part of her ongoing International Eras tour. During her final concert on May 19, she paused her acoustic set to check on the safety of her fans, asking:
"Someone in the front row, can you tell me yes or no to this question: When you guys are putting a bunch of flashlights up in a group, does that mean people need help?. We're at the end of the night, so if I see that again, I'm gonna try to point it out. I just didn't know if you were … waving at me."
While it remains unclear if the person Taylor Swift addressed needed assistance, several fans were taken to the first aid area that night. To deal with the heat, the venue provided free water bottles, including cold ones, and volunteers dispensed cups of water. Additionally, free water stations were available to ensure fans stayed hydrated.
Heat continues to be concern on Taylor Swift Eras tour
Taylor Swift's pausing her concert to check on her fans is the latest in a series of incidents linked to rising global temperatures that have affected the tour. Heat has been an ongoing problem during the Eras tour, even leading to a tragedy back in November when a fan died at a concert in Rio de Janeiro.
The incident occurred at the Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos, where Ana Clara Benevides Machado sought help, was transferred to a nearby hospital, and was subsequently pronounced dead due to cardiac arrest. The city was witnessing unprecedented levels of heat and humidity, known as a wet bulb temperature, which can cause heat exhaustion and collapse even in people accustomed to high temperatures.
Taylor Swift responded to the fan's death by releasing a heartfelt message on her official Instagram, expressing her devastation. Subsequently, she postponed the concerts in the city for the next two days, when temperatures reached as high as 59 degrees Celsius in the city.
Fortunately, no such tragedy occurred in Sweden. Taylor Swift will continue her Eras tour, heading next to Lisbon and then Madrid before moving to France.
