American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was detained on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, after he allegedly violated his plea deal parole rules in the 2019 RICO case. According to Billboard, his arraignment happened on the same day in Manhattan federal court.
Several publications including Vulture and ABC 7 reported that 6ix9ine, aka Daniel Hernandez, has been detained in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center, the same place where Diddy is held.
According to Matthew Russell Lee of Inner City Press, during Tuesday's hearing, the prosecutors argued that 6ix9ine traveled to Las Vegas without approval, failed to submit for drug testing, and also tested positive for methamphetamine. The rapper allegedly also showed up an hour late for his hearing on Tuesday.
Lance Lazzaro, Tekashi 6ix9ine's lawyer, however, claimed that the rapper had proper permission to go to Vegas and perform. Lazzaro also claimed that finding traces of meth in Tekashi's system was a "mix-up" because the rapper consumed prescription drug Adderall which had methamphetamine in it.
As per HipHopDX, the rapper will be detained behind bars until his next hearing takes place on November 12, 2024. While Tekashi previously talked about signing a deal with Kartel Music, he might have to postpone the same, at least until his next hearing date.
For those unversed, Daniel Hernandez, known as Tekashi 6ix9ine, pleaded guilty in 2019 to charges related to his involvement in directing violence for the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang.
Tekashi 6ix9ine has previously been arrested several times
This wasn't the first time that the rapper had allegedly violated laws. In 2018, authorities detained him and Tekashi 6ix9ine faced several charges including conspiracy to commit murder, racketeering, and others.
In 2020, he even gave a testimony against his gang Nine Trey Gangster Bloods, which eventually led to the arrests of many of his former gang members. One of the primary arrests even included that of a gang leader who was sentenced to 17 years behind bars on drug dealing and racketeering charges.
The plea deal that 6ix9ine agreed upon further led to leniency in his sentencing, in which he got only two years.
In 2023, he was again arrested in the Dominican Republic, after he was accused of assaulting two producers there. As per a report by Newsweek, earlier this year, he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend singer Yailín la Más Viral and was arrested for domestic violence.
Just a few weeks back, in the beginning of October, he spoke to TMZ, about signing a deal with Kartel Music, as mentioned before. He then explained that he wanted to make "Mexican regional music."
While talking to TMZ, Tekashi said:
"It’s not a record deal. It’s an exclusive tour deal that I’m doing in Central America, South America, United States, and Mexico, like, the exclusivity deal. You know I dominated the English market, you know, the hip-hop English music for a long time, and I did it to the highest level, so I think one of the gifts that God gave me was that I'm able to dominate in both demographics."
After arriving an hour late to court on Tuesday, the judge noted that Tekashi 6ix9ine’s actions suggested a "broader pattern" of misbehavior. Until then, he will remain in jail. Further updates are expected in the case, with a hearing scheduled for November.
