On November 27, J. Cole released his third official mixtape, Friday Night Lights, on all streaming platforms. The mixtape was originally dropped in November 2010. Cole made the announcement through a post on his social media handles, as he wrote in the caption:
"This is a very special moment for me. Been waiting patiently for this day, like a lot of yall have. I wanna say Thank you to everybody out there that kept these projects alive, even during all the years they were not on streaming services, especially this project right here. “Friday Nights Lights” is finally available now on all platforms."
This 2010 mixtape has been made available on multiple streaming platforms, like Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal.
As per the November 27 report by No Musica, this mixtape is well-known for its compelling storytelling and introspective lyrics. It has also reportedly become one of the most popular projects of J. Cole. Subsequently, fans seemed excited by the latest announcement.
They flooded the internet with their reactions after the revelation was made. Here are some popular responses found on X. One user wrote:
"Thanksgiving just got so much better."
Another one wrote on X:
"One of my favorite mixtapes of all time, thank you for pushing so hard to get this on streaming."
"Legendary moment in time," added a tweet.
"It’s Been A Long Time Coming. We’ve Been Waiting," mentioned another user.
Several other netizens expressed how they were feeling emotional and overwhelmed after J. Cole made the announcement about the mixtape being made available on streaming platforms. A fan tweeted:
"Damn man, another night made by great art! Thank you!"
"Bro I’m legit emotional listening to this. These were the days!!" commented another one.
"As a fan for 15 years, this is so surreal. Wow," remarked a fan.
The mixtape's tracks were initially meant to be part of J. Cole's debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story
Hot 97 reported on November 27 that the songs of Friday Night Lights were supposed to be included in J. Cole's first album. His label, however, believed that the songs wouldn't attract much commercial success, so the artist released the songs as a mixtape, along with some extra freestyles.
Only one song from the mixtape, In The Morning featuring Drake, was included in Cole World: The Sideline Story. Cole played a very significant role in the production of most of the songs on the mixtape. Some popular tracks of Friday Night Lights are Before I'm Gone, The Autograph, Premeditated Murder, Love Me Not, Cost Me a Lot, and Home For the Holidays.
This isn't the first time Cole has re-released his mixtapes on streaming platforms. Just a few days back, on November 19, Cole announced the re-launch of his debut mixtape The Come Up on these platforms.
The debut mixtape, which was originally dropped in 2007, never became a part of the streaming platforms until last week. The Come Up consisted of several popular tracks, including School Daze, Simba, and Dollar and a Dream.
