Jeffery Lamar Williams II, a.k.a. Young Thug, seemingly dissed Gunna in a new song teaser. On Thursday, January 2, 2025, the rapper took to his Instagram stories to share a snippet of an untitled song where he can be heard rapping:

"Never associate with a rat/ Go and get some money, get a pack."

As the clip went viral, internet users began speculating that the bar was dissing Gunna (a.k.a. Sergio Giavanni Kitchens) for allegedly snitching during the YSL RICO trial. In May 2022, law enforcement arrested both rappers (and others associated with the label YSL (Young Stoner Life)) for violating Georgia's RICO Act. Per the indictment, YSL was a front for the criminal gang Young Slime Life.

In December 2022, Gunna entered the Alford plea deal (defendants can plead guilty while still maintaining their innocence). Since then, the rapper has battled rumors of snitching on Young Thug/YSL. Williams entered a non-negotiated plea in October 2024 and was released on probation.

Many continued to connect the track's bar with Gunna. Here are some comments seen on @nfr_podcast's post on X:

"bro asking to go back to jail," one wrote.
"It's 2025, wrap that rat s**t up lil n**ga. N**gas still bumping Gunna," a user stated.
"Was this a diss to Gunna?" another questioned.

Others wondered whether Thug would team up with Lil Baby, who has previously called Gunna a rat, to beef with the latter.

"YOUNGTHUG AND LIL BABY vs GUNNA beef really starting tonight So who's Drake and who's Kendrick in this scenario?" a person remarked.
"Hope we get this on Baby’s album tonight," another hoped.
"Gunna gotta respond man, can’t go out like this," one suugested.

What happened between Young Thug and Gunna?

The untitled snippet was not the only music by Young Thug that went viral yesterday. A leaked snippet of the rapper's collaboration with Lil Baby and Future, Dum, Dumb, and Dumber, from Baby's upcoming album WHAM (releasing on January 3), also went viral.

In the leaked preview, Williams can be heard rapping, "Yeah n**ga King Spider back," and "I don't even believe I was locked up fr fr." Both bars reference his YSL RICO case and time spent behind bars.

Notably, both Baby and Future have previously called Gunna a rat. According to a September 2023 report by XXL, following his release, Gunna's attorney, Steve Sadow, shared a statement with the publication on his behalf, asserting:

"I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way."

The statement elaborated that Gunna cherished his association with YSL and would continue to do so. However, by January 2023, rumors of the rapper snitching on Young Thug began circulating. These claims were bolstered after Lil Baby unfollowed Gunna on Instagram in January 2023, and Lil Durk called Gunna a "rat" on DJ Akademiks' Off the Record podcast in May 2023.

In June 2023, a clip of Lil Baby recording new music began circulating online. It showed him rapping:

"Some n**gas taking pleas at trial I know that slime ain’t happy."

Young Thug pleaded guilty to six of the eight charges against him. These included participating in a street gang, two gun possession charges, and three drug-related charges. He also pleaded no contest (the defendant doesn't admit to the charge but will not fight it) to racketeering and leading the YSL gang.

In June 2023, Gunna and Young Thug dropped their respective albums, A Gift & a Curse and Business Is Business. Neither rapper was featured on the other's project, which is rare for them.

During a September 2023 interview with Infamous Sylvia (the legal affairs journalist's YouTube channel), Thug's father, Jeffery Williams, Sr., spoke in support of Gunna, noting that the rapper did nothing to harm his son's case.

"I love Gunna. Let me try to help the attorney clarify that a little simpler. Gunna hasn’t done anything whatsoever that can hurt us on this case. Period."

According to a Complex article, a video of Lil Baby demanding the DJ to stop playing Gunna's song Drip Too Hard during a concert began circulating in December 2023. He can be heard saying:

"F*ck the rats turn this sh*t off."

In light of the clip, Young Thug's father again defended Gunna, criticizing Lil Baby. On December 20, he appeared on Infamous Sylvia's channel for a live interview and called out the rapper.

"He need to shut the f*ck up, ’cause he don't know what's going on," before adding, "He going off a what he heard. Ask Lil Baby has he ever come to a court date."

In April 2024, Gunna addressed the snitching rumors during his interview with XXL. He explained that he felt "everybody’s been misled." He added that everyone should make their own decisions instead of being a "follower."

In October, Future released his track Allure (with A$AP Ferg), where he rapped:

"I’m just a street n**ga, just rappin’, my day ones went fed (Pluto)/You took a plea on my slime, won't be surprised you ended up dead (Slatt)."

It is noteworthy that during the trial, Young Thug never mentioned Gunna or called him a snitch. Further, Thug's probation terms, which barred him from associating with suspected gang members and fellow defendants, included an exception for his brother, Quantavious Grier, and Gunna.

However, just a day after his release, Young Thug tweeted (since deleted):

"Wham let's drop one on these rats peter."

Fans believe the post was a reference to dropping new music with Lil Baby and directed at Gunna ("rat"). Just days after the tweet, Young Thug shared another post (since deleted) that read:

"Gunna stop acting like we friends on the internet, I don't know u my guy."

Since then, Thugger was spotted in a studio with Future, Lil Baby, and Travis Scott. But hasn't addressed Gunna directly since. It remains unclear where the two rappers stand with each other.

Neither Young Thug nor Gunna has publicly reacted to the leaked track.
