Elliott Wilson, founder and CEO of the Rap Radar podcast, recently had an online exchange with DJ Akademiks over Akademiks' loyalty to Drake. Akademiks has been a strong supporter of Drake, especially during his feud with Kendrick Lamar.
The two titans of the hip-hop industry have been part of a longstanding diss track feud that peaked in the middle of 2024 with the release of diss tracks like Not Like Us, Meet The Grahams, Family Matters, and many more. On December 23, Elliott Wilson raved about DJ Akademiks in a tweet but alleged that Drake keeps toying with him.
"I got love for Big AK. Still numero uno. 🏆But The Boy keeps playin you. Stake or no Stake. Ain’t no way around it. Respectfully," he wrote on X.
DJ Akademiks responded on his X page @AkademiksTV, claiming that 'Elliot' Wilson wanted him to go against Drake.
In response, Elliott Wilson denied claims of wanting DJ Akademiks to turn on the Canadian rapper. Wilson corrected his spelling and said:
"It’s ELLIOTT, intern. And that’s not what I said."
The Rap Radar boss also alleged that DJ Akademiks made an 'intern' write the tweet for him - something that several X users found hilarious and wrote about in the comment section.
Drake once sent a rat emoji to Elliott Wilson during his feud with Kendrick Lamar
On June 9, 2024, Elliott Wilson appeared on The Joe Budden Podcast and claimed that Drake had accused him of snitching information to Kendrick Lamar. The accusation came after Lamar's diss track 6.16 in LA, which was released on May 3 and insinuated that Drake had a mole within his camp.
Elliott Wilson explained that he contacted Drake after the release of 6.16 in LA, asking if Drake had a rebuttal. Drake reportedly replied:
"Yeah, something, lol"
Drake followed it up with a rat emoji, which Elliott Wilson interpreted as him being labeled as a snitch. However, the media personality clarified on the podcast that he and Kendrick Lamar didn't share a 'personal rapport.'
“What would I rat about? Imagine if you said that everything Kendrick knows [is] ’cause Elliott Wilson is telling him that? Kendrick would laugh all day. I’m cool with Kendrick, but we’re not cool like that to even have that level of personal rapport. And then, like, what am I telling him? [Drake’s] gonna drop a battle record against you? Yes, n*gga, you’re in a battle! What am I telling you? What is the information I’m telling you?” Elliott Wilson claimed.
Elliott claimed that he felt disrespected after being accused of double-crossing. After denying the alleged accusation, he said:
"Out of nowhere, he [Drake] sent me a rat emoji! I’ve never had a grown man ever send me a disrespectful emoji of any sort. I’m a grown a** man. I’m fuming.”
As a reply to Drake's rat emoji, Wilson sent a meme of 50 Cent saying "What he say 'f*ck me' for?" However, Drake allegedly never replied back and eventually blocked him on Instagram and ceased all contact with Wilson.
In a May 22 episode of The Bigger Picture Elliot Wilson also claimed that he was threatened by Drizzy's 'OGs,' who warned him to stay away from Drizzy's hometown of Toronto.
"I got the calls from OGs. You know, I’m not really welcome in Toronto right now […] I grew up in New York City — you know you don’t go through other people’s project, right? I would not go to Toronto if me and Drake weren’t good, so that obviously makes sense. So yeah, I just think it’s a tough time,” Wilson said.
In the same podcast, Wilson inferred that Kendrick Lamar had won the diss track battle. The Rap Radar boss waxed lyrical about K Dot's Not Like Us, ranking it as one of the top three best diss tracks of all time.
