Recently, the CEO of Fanatics, Michael Rubin justified his choice to avoid Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us from playing at his yearly All-White Party, admitting that the purpose was to calm Drake.

He stated on Wednesday on The Breakfast Club that he had decided to restrict the song, not Drake, which has subsequently grown to be K. Dot's biggest hit to date.

He called Drake his real-life friend and promised never to put him in an awkward situation. He further acknowledged that Lamar's song was banned on the day of the party when the song managed to get past the system.

Confirming the same, the interviewer asked,

“Drake was there this year and everybody was like oh they weren't allowed to play not like us like does that stuff bother you and was that even true?”

Rubin added,

“It was true and… you know Drake's my friend for a long time.. he's obviously going through a little bit of battle right now.. I'm not going to have him come there and… be in battle more.”

He further said,

“I just didn't think it was.. appropriate. So I just said.. hey let's not play… anyone's music that's feuding with anyone.”

Rubin then continued,

“It wasn't like Drake was like… that was a me decision.. I will tell you the day before we had a small barbecue for a few hours that was supposed to be 30 people turned into 200 people and went for about 10 hours the night before. That was the game to the white party and they turned the music on just like in my house. They put [on] Rap Caviar and Not Like Us came on.”

Michael Rubin concluded,

“It was like in the middle of Not Like Us I'm like get that off… Drake was there. He was pulling up soon…”

When the interviewer asked if he had it on his playlist, Rubin said jokingly that no he didn’t.

The podcast episode came after Michael Rubin’s annual All-White Party which happened on July 4. Many A-listers celebrities attended the party, including Kim and Khloé Kardashian, Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly, Tom Brady, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Quavo, Emily Ratajkowski, Camila Cabello, Leonardo DiCaprio, etc.

Drake was also there amidst his then-ongoing feud with his fellow rapper, Kendrick Lamar. During the rap battle, Lamar dropped several Drake diss tracks, including Not Like Us.

Lamar smacked an owl-shaped pinata, which is the symbol of Drake's record label, OVO, early in the video. At the bottom of the screen, the caption said,

"Disclaimer: No OVhoes were harmed in making this video.”

Furthermore, Kendrick also referred to Drake as a p*dophile in the song's first verse. Additionally, Lamar then put an actual owl in a cage and stared at it at the end of the video.

Following the interview of Michael Rubin, Drake didn’t say anything.
