It was announced on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, that Eminem will be opening for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. The same was confirmed by MTV on Monday. This is the first time since 2022, that the Houdini singer has decided to appear on stage for the VMAs. He last opened for this award show along with Rihanna back in 2010.
Meanwhile, netizens have flooded social media platforms after the singer was announced as a performer at the VMAs this year. Here are some of the responses shared on X, formerly known as Twitter:
"WE ARE BACK BABY, THATS THE MF GOAT"
"Niceeeee! something to look forward to," read another tweet.
"Eminem is a top performer at this year video music award," commented another X user.
Several other netizens took to X to express their excitement over the decision. A netizen tweeted:
"Will definitely be watching with Eminem involved! The VMA's are always fun too!"
"We'll be watching," read another tweet.
"They finally got Em back to the VMA’s," mentioned another user.
A number of other artists including Sabrina Carpenter, Megan Thee Stallion, and Chappell Roan are expected to be a part of the event. The event will further be hosted by Stallion. It is also worth mentioning that with multiple nominations this time, Eminem might become the most-awarded male artist in the history of the VMAs.
Eminem has about eight nominations for the 2024 MTV VMAs
As mentioned, the 2024 MTV VMAs are set to be held in New York's UBS Arena on Wednesday, September 11 at 8 p.m. EST. While several top artists are expected to be a part of the event, fans seemed extremely excited about Eminem opening the show. He had last performed at the awards show in 2022 with Snoop Dogg.
The rapper's huge list of nominations include "Video of the Year," "Best Hip-Hop," "Song of the Summer," and "VMAs Most Iconic Performance."
His 2024 hit song Houdini has already been selected under five categories, as confirmed by Eminem.news. The song was the lead track of his twelfth studio album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace), which was released this year. Mlive reported that this album has become his 11th album to secure number 1 on the Billboard 200.
The outlet had further confirmed that he is the only hip-hop artist to have received nominations in two categories together- "Artist of the Year" and "Video of the Year." The 51-year-old singer is expected to join the lineup of the event that already includes Anitta, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Blankpink's Lisa, and GloRilla, to name a few.
It should be noted that while this award show is usually held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, this time the venue had been shifted to Long Island’s UBS Arena. For the unversed, the awards show was initially scheduled to take place on September 10. The date was, however, shifted to September 11, to avoid clashing with the much-awaited presidential debate.
Viewers can watch the event live on MTV. They can also opt for other platforms including FuboTV, Hulu+ Live TV, and Sling TV, that are currently offering free trials.
