Miley Cyrus made history as the youngest Disney Legend at the D23 event in Anaheim, California, on August 11, 2024. The Hannah Montana star, who gave an emotional speech when she accepted the honor on stage, jested about malfunctioning between 2013 and 2016.

“The Burbank office is where it’s rumored they create all of us Disney kids. I definitely wasn’t created in a lab, and if I was there must have been a bug in the system which caused me to malfunction somewhere between the years and 2013 and 2016,” she said.

Many interpreted Miley Cyrus' statement as referring to her fourth studio album, Bangerz, released on September 30, 2013, which saw the Disney star shed her child-friendly persona. One person tweeted:

Many agreed with the sentiment, adding that Bangerz was her best album.

"Welp it was her best album," one person said.
"And she made actual bangerz," another person added.
"Her best era," tweeted another person.
"This self-deprecating comment highlights Miley's awareness of the dramatic shift in her public image during that period," someone else wrote.

"Reminder that without these key miley cyrus eras, she would not be inducted as a legend by disney. she really is an ARTIST," one fan commented.
"Miley is the definition of a legend and i will die on that hill," another person added.
"She’s a pop icon and legend," someone else wrote.

"This is the life" — Miley Cyrus quoted Hannah Montana during her acceptance speech

Miley Cyrus embodied teen pop star Hannah Montana in the Disney show from 2006 to 2011. On Sunday, the singer was honored with a Disney Legend induction for her contributions to the entertainment conglomerate, making her the youngest recipient at 31.

Miley Cyrus, who accepted the honor with a tearful speech, recalled the process of being cast as Hannah Montana, saying that Disney hired her in 2005 on their mission to "rebuild the company."

She also dedicated the honor to Hannah Montana and her fans, quoting the fictional pop star's song This Is The Life.

“I stand here still proud to have been ‘Hannah Montana.' This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality. To quote the legend herself, ‘This is the life,'” she said.

Miley Cyrus was one of the 14 recipients of the Disney Legend honor on August 11. The list included Jamie Lee Curtis, Harrison Ford, Angela Bassett, and James Cameron, among others.

The hit Disney sitcom Hannah Montana followed the double life of Miley Stewart, a teenager in Malibu, as she tries to juggle her ordinary life with being a famous pop star. The four-season show was met with critical acclaim, spanning crossovers with other Disney shows, a feature film, and a concert film.

In the final season, Miley Stewart revealed her true identity to the world, embarking on her next journey to college as a renowned celebrity.

According to Variety, Hannah Montana holds the record for "highest-rated basic cable series telecast" after it drew 10.7 million viewers for its 2007 episode featuring the Jonas Brothers, Me and Mr. Jonas, and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas.
