Pop Smoke's killer Blockstar was reportedly released last month after he served his four-year sentence in prison. While the news led to heavy criticism on social media, the late rapper's mother Audrey Jackson has now shared her reaction to Blockstar's release.
Notably, Blockstar has already expressed his regret over everything that happened as he appeared for an interview on the No Jumper podcast on July 15, 2024. Audrey was questioned if she saw the conversation during her recent conversation with Hot 97 and she replied by saying:
"I'm not tuned into that. It's not apart of my world. I have people who will come and say 'have you heard'? They'll hit me up and say 'ma you okay?'"
Jackson added that she was aware of Blockstar's interviews about Pop Smoke's murder and stated:
"I gotta' let that go because that'll eat me up – I gotta' let that go. The bottomline is – your life is over. His life is finished. He's living but if that's his approach to what he's done, life is done for him."
Audrey also shared that she is planning to celebrate her son's birthday via her organization, Shoot for the Stars, and they would work to change everyone's lives "through creative engagement, education, access to technology and inspirational, global experiences."
Pop Smoke's murderer was sentenced in April last year: Interview and other details explained
Blockstar was sentenced to four years in April 2023 after he reportedly pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and home invasion robbery. Also known as King Vermont Raskel, he shared an Instagram video after his release last month where he removed the ankle monitor with scissors. The caption reads:
"Can't let no P.O determine my safety."
As mentioned, Blockstar started trending earlier this month for his interview on the No Jumper podcast, where he said he was not feeling sorry for anything. He said he would have returned to the day of the incident if possible.
He added that Pop Smoke always rapped about people dying every day and other similar things. He continued by saying:
"I send my condolences to the family. I wish it never happened. But I don't regret nothing. Growing up, my people, my family told me, 'You ain't sorry for nothing. Whatever you did, you did it for a reason and stand on it.'"
Blockstar, who was reportedly 15 at the time of the incident, said he and his co-defendants never intended to murder Pop Smoke, claiming his death was the result of a planned robbery. It remains unknown if he was the person who fired the shots.
Another suspect, Corey Walker, has not yet gone to trial. His trial was rescheduled after he didn't agree to the plea deal conditions. The jury selection process for Walker's trial will begin on August 6, 2024.
