British singer and songwriter Elton John took to Instagram on August 9 to congratulate Chappell Roan on her UK Number 1 album. This marks her first UK chart-topping achievement with her studio album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, released in September 2023. Her single Good Luck Babe currently stands second on the Official UK Chart.

In his Instagram post, Elton John wrote:

“Congratulations to @chappellroan on her first UK Number 1 album. The meteoric rise of a midwestern princess. Brilliant pop music that brings the world together at a much needed time.”

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess was Chappell Roan's long-awaited debut studio album. While the album’s impact was less in the UK, it did well on the US charts. However, it made its way to the top position in the UK chart, followed by Charli XCX’s Brat, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, and Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft.

Elton John and Chappell Roan had previously appeared on an Apple Podcast named Rocket Hour, where the British singer said that it was wonderful to see true talent being recognized. Earlier in March, Roan announced her UK and European tour, set to begin on August 31 in Berlin, Germany. It will be followed by her shows in Paris, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and then in the UK and Ireland.

Additionally, the remix of Guess by Charli XCX and Billie Eilish has dominated the UK Official Singles Chart.

Chappell Roan released vinyl pressings of her Midwest Princess album

Chappell Roan’s recent rise in the charts may be attributed to the release of the limited-edition vinyl pressings of her album, which features catchy singles like Red Wine Supernova. In a February 17, 2024, interview with ABC News, she talked about the album. When asked about how she felt after riding the wave, the singer replied:

“I feel very prepared. I have been doing this for a decade. I have been through a major label deal already and dropped and then another major label deal so I think if this were to happen when I was hoping it would happen, when I was like 17, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it. So, I’m really able to enjoy it because I feel ready.”

As the interview progressed, she mentioned that in 2020 she ran out of money and had to work as a barista. She worked in the drive-through in Missouri. At that time, she had to either give it another shot or complete school to become a biologist.

One of the songs on her album, Pink Pony Club, is a documentation of her experience in a gay bar. The singer went to her first gay bar in West Hollywood, which she said was a spiritual experience for her.
