As the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar rap feud seemed to cool off, the Toronto-born rapper's OVO (October's Very Own) clothing brand seemingly appeared to take a subtle jab in a new social media post. The brand's official Instagram account shared a series of photos advertising their casual wear on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Their collection included a white tank top (also called a "wife beater"). What's more, the model donning the particular top beard resembles Lamar's fiancée, Whitney Alford. Fans speculate that this photo is referencing Drake's diss track Family Matters, in which he accused his rival of domestic violence in his diss tracks.
Netizens were quick to react. One user praised the move, calling Drizzy the "petty king."
However, others were less impressed. Some remarked that the Canadian rapper was being "weird." Others commented that the two women look nothing alike. Here are some comments seen under @mymixtapez's post on X:
"he wants to be Kendrick so bad," one user wrote.
"Drake is so weird when it comes to women," another X user commented.
"So looking like her means wearing a wife beater because where they look like alike ??" @RealTeaWithTia added.
Some speculated that Drake hiring a Whitney lookalike might indicate a new Kendrick diss track in the works. Others noted that just because two people look similar does not mean there is any agenda.
"What if he does a new diss song with a parody video of not like us?" a netizen reacted.
"As long as it stays hip Hop that's all that matters I could definitely see this getting all the way out of hand. Folks better tread lightly!" a fan weighed in.
"God forbid 2 people look similar. Everybody bout to start reaching," another fan commented.
Drake's new OVO model's appearance resembles Whitney Alford from Lamar's Not Like Us
Drake and Kendrick Lamar's rap beef took a serious turn earlier this year, with both rappers launching attacks on each other's careers and personal lives.
This included Drizzy's Family Matters, where he accused both Kenny and Whitney Alford of cheating, even claiming one of the rapper's children was fathered by Kenny's manager, Dave Free, and alleged that Lamar was abusive towards his fiancee.
In response, the Compton rapper released Meet the Grahams and Not Like Us. In the former song, Lamar called the 6 God rapper an absent father, accused him of signing s*x offenders to his OVO label, and alleged that Drizzy was running a s*x trafficking ring.
In Not Like Us, K. Dot accused him of pedophilia. He alleged Drake was exploiting Atlanta's music scene for financial gains, calling him a "colonizer" who was insensitive to black history. The track was an instant hit, debuting atop the music charts. Many critics say Not Like Us won Kendrick Lamar the rap feud.
On the Fourth of July, Lamar dropped a music video for Not Like Us. A section of the MV featured Lamar and his family dancing together. Interstingly, the OVO model's appearance and clothes in a recent Instagram post closely resembled Alford's look in the MV, reinforcing the rumor that the move was a diss aimed at Lamar.
Neither Drake nor Kendrick Lamar have publicly commented on the development.
