Miles Parks McCollum, who goes by the stage name Lil Yachty, claims he's leaving the internet amid backlash over his remarks about Drake. On Thursday, August 1, 2024, the rapper took to his Instagram Live to say he was signing off social media, stating,
"I'm not doing no more talking. I don't got sh*t else to say. I'm gone off this internet sh*t. I think I'm gone for the rest of the year. I swear to God. I ain't got sh*t else to say."
Yachty's move comes as he continues to face ire for his comments about Drake made on Andrew Schulz's Flagrant podcast and NYC fashion on Yachty's Safe Place podcast.
Netizens were quick to react to Lil Yachty's decision. Many criticized the rapper, stating that quitting the internet would not solve his problems.
"The podcast is what got you in trouble in the first place so you are not solving any problems my brother."
Internet users shared quips in response. Here are some comments seen on X,
"He gotta realize this isn’t an airport and he doesn’t need to announce his departure," one user wrote.
"This is tragic.. what will we do without Lil Yachty on the internet?" another quipped.
"Yacthy acts just like a suburban sheltered kid lol," a user added.
"Good, we’re better off without his thoughts & opinions" a user added.
"Lmao now this— no one told bro to say sh*t in the first place now he wanna say in contracted to talk on a podcast — yo pls foh," another wrote.
"Rapper goes on Social Media to say he’s done with social media," a fan commented.
"Contracted to do this podcast"—Lil Yachty states he would continue his podcast but remain inactive online
otherwise
Lil Yachty continued his rant, explaining he had to continue his podcast but would delete other apps and curb other social media activities.
"Contracted to do this podcast sh*t, unfortunately contracted to, but I ain't posting no more sh*t. I ain't posting no fits. I'm deleting the apps off my phone. I swear to God...I'm not tweeting, I'm minding my f*cking business."
In a now-deleted episode of the Safe Space podcast (July 31), the Flex Up rapper and co-host MitchGoneMad compared New York and Atlanta fashion, stating that New York does not have its own identity but was copied from Atlanta. They suggested much of the clothes worn by New Yorkers come from a handful of brands like Purple, Amiri, and Hellstar, which both co-hosts did not think were stylish. Lil Yachty remarked,
"As far as style goes, I don’t think it’s sh*t going on when it comes to New York fashion."
Later, the rapper appeared on the Flagrant podcast, where he discussed the recent Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar feud. When the host asked him if he thinks people are hating on Drake because he "f*ck their b*tches." To which he replied, that people are criticizing Drake because he's "the guy." Yachty stated Drake seemed unbothered by the beef as he didn't care.
