The sales of rapper YG’s new Just Re’d Up 3 album have left internet users shocked. The West Coast rapper dropped his highly anticipated mixtape on Friday, August 16. The double-disc series includes features from industry legends like Mozzy, Lil Yachty, Saweetie, and Ty Dolla $ign, among others.
Hot News Hip Hop, among many other publications, recently reported that YG’s latest drop managed to sell only 8,000 units in its first week. X user @BrianZisook also revealed that the album received approximately 12 million streams as well. It was also reported that the mixtape debuted at the 151st spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
Several internet users were disappointed by the numbers YG had made, especially considering his recent appearance at Kendrick Lamar’s Juneteenth Pop Out concert that took place in Kia Forum, Los Angeles, in June. Many believed that the latter must have extended support and promoted the singer’s new album.
Others also believed that him joining K. Dot at the sensational Juneteenth concert must have been a good indicator that he would garner more sales. One X user commented:
Several internet users took to X to seemingly mock YG, whose real name is Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson, and the West Coast rap scene. A few comments read:
“YG & Mustard got the West Coast down 10,000 rn,” an X user said.
“Everyone he had on stage he let them flop… idk I think he could have at least posted an IG story or tweeted something to promote the albums for him and mustard and combined they sold less that latto and I don’t even like her,” another platform user said.
“Bro went triple paper plate,” another netizen commented.
DJ Mustard also received immense flack following the release of his Faith Of A Mustard album, as DJ Akademiks claimed that the K. Dot supporter documented only 18,000 sales following the album drop. Meanwhile, other reactions to Jackson's sales read:
“There’s a BIG difference between the Drake and Kendrick stimulus,” an X user said.
“all of that for a drop of blood,” another platform user commented.
“That’s concert didn’t do s**t for mustard or YG. It’s not Kendrick fault. But if he would have posted or retweeted there albums they would have instantly sold 30k plus smh,” another netizen commented.
Others also noted that Jackson never featured in Kendrick Lamar’s music despite being an ardent supporter of the Not Like Us crooner. Comments online read:
“I can’t tell if this it to clown on him, or congratulate him,” a netizen commented.
“Bro… are labels even trying to promote anymore?? Why so many albums dropping with nobody even knowing fr,” an internet user commented.
YG seemingly supported Kendrick Lamar by allegedly dissing Drake on his song Weird
Jackson dropped his Weird single in May. Many believed that certain lyrics from the song were a response to Drake’s Family Matters lyrics: “You know who bang a set? My n**ga YG.” Internet users speculated that the following lyrics were directed at Drake:
“When it smoke, don’t ever mention my name (Mention my name)/ You gon’ have me jeopardizin’ my fame/ Jeopardizin’ the gang, jeopardizin’ when you hang, n**ga”
Jackson allowed Kendrick Lamar to sample his 2011 song I’m Good in Not Like Us. This and his appearance at the Pop Out concert left fans confident in his allegiance towards K. Dot in his feud with Drake.
The original Just Re’d Up mixtape was released on May 2, 2011. Two years later, the second rendition of the same was dropped, which included features from Nipsey Hussle, Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, and Jeezy, among others.
Just Re’d Up 3 marks the singer’s seventh studio album.
