Well-known singer Burna Boy has recently come out in support of Lil Durk following his arrest on October 24, 2024. The news comes at a time when Durk's fans have begun demanding his release from prison and social media platforms are also flooded with posts about the same.
Also known as Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, he shared a lineup of Instagram Stories on October 29, and wrote in one of them:
"Free Smurk."
In another Story, Burna Boy added a black-and-white photo of himself and stated on top of it:
"The streets ain't wat it used to be. The old rules no longer apply. The way I see it, Everybody is a civilian now. No more sliding, Just Sue your opps to court and take they money."
A glimpse of the stories was also obtained by The Shade Room, who shared the same through their Instagram page. Netizens shared their reactions to Burna's statements, with some of them criticizing the artist for supporting a person who has committed a crime. However, Durk's supporters also demanded his release below the post.
Notably, Burna Boy and Lil Durk have once collaborated in the remix of the latter's single All My Life, which came out in October 2023. The original song was released in May of the same year and it managed to reach on top of the US Billboard Hot 100 and other charts.
Furthermore, All My Life was also included in the soundtrack of Durk's album, Almost Healed. The project turned out to be successful, breaking records in terms of sales and streaming on different platforms.
Lil Durk's rap collective members were also taken into custody before his arrest
The Chicago, Illinois native was taken into custody on a charge of murder-for-hire last week on October 24. He was attempting to flee to Italy on a private plane and had reportedly booked two more flights to Dubai and Switzerland, as per Hip Hop DX.
The rapper's legal issues are linked to the murder attempt on Quando Rondo that happened at a gasoline station in Los Angeles on August 19, 2022. A press release from the US Attorney's Office claimed that Lil Durk reportedly ordered the attack.
While Rondo managed to escape, his cousin Lul Pab was shot dead in the incident. Durk started having problems with Rondo after rapper King Von was reportedly murdered by Rondo's associate in November 2020. Von was a member of Durk's hip-hop group Only The Family (OTF).
OTF has been already accused of being allegedly involved in criminal activities like murder and assault in a federal complaint filed at the U.S. District Court on October 24.
The press release claimed that the profits accumulated by OTF over the years were also used in the planning that was reportedly done by Lil Durk to kill Rondo.
A group of five people were brought in for the same and they traveled to California a day before the incident. The group's expenses, including their accommodation, were paid with a credit card that was reportedly linked to Lil Durk.
Before the shooting incident happened, the entire group followed Quando Rondo for several hours with two vehicles. The group of five people have also been arrested before Durk was taken into custody.
The arrested individuals were Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston. As per XXL Magazine, they have been accused of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, committing murder-for-hire involving a death, and use of a machine gun in a violent crime leading to death.
