People have recently been mocking Drake for his song First Person Shooter aging poorly following his rival Kendrick Lamar's announcement that he would headline the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show.

First Person Shooter is Drake's collaborative track with J. Cole that kicked off the Canadian rapper's high-octane feud with Lamar following its release in October 2023. In the song, J. Cole compares their collaboration to the Super Bowl with the lyrics:

"Numero U-N-O/ Me and Drizzy, this s**t like the Super Bowl/ Man, this s**t damn near big as the/ Big as the what? / Big as the what? / Big as the what? / Big as the Super Bowl."

When the news of Kendrick Lamar performing at the Super Bowl halftime show broke, many quickly pointed out the irony of the rapper headlining the event after Drake rapped about it in his song. One person tweeted:

Many agreed with this sentiment, adding that Lamar performing at the Super Bowl after Drake mentioned it in the song that kickstarted the feud was a "full circle" moment.

"Drake & J. Cole on First Person Shooter said they’re as big as the Super Bowl Kendrick went on to headline the Super Bowl It really came full circle," one person said.
“Big as the Super Bowl” only for Kendrick to do it first and ring off an anthem about you being a p*do to an audience of hundreds of millions. that’s gonna be rough…" another person added.
"Them boys said they was big as the Super Bowl. kendrick a comic book villain at this point," someone else wrote.
"Performing at the Super Bowl in response to a song where the guy you beefing with said he was “big as the Super Bowl” is the craziest rebuttal in hip hop history," another user tweeted.

Others wondered if Lamar took more subliminal shots at the Canadian rapper with his announcement, while some speculated when Lamar would release his new album.

"I knew Kendrick Lamar was unhinged when he used his promo for the Super Bowl to Suplex Drake some more," one person commented.
"This is furthering my theory that Kendrick is gonna drop the album on Drake’s birthday to give us a couple months with it before the Super Bowl and to quite literally take every major holiday away from this man LMFAOOOOOOOOO," another person speculated."
"Kendrick went from being at home minding his own business to headlining the super bowl all because Drake didn't know how to pick his battles," someone wrote.

Drake's First Person Shooter instigated his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar

In October 2023, Drake and J. Cole collaborated on the former's track First Person Shooter from his eighth studio album, For All The Dogs. In the song, J. Cole fired off the incendiary verse that caused Lamar to respond, bringing the long-standing feud to the forefront of the rap industry. J. Cole claimed he, Lamar, and Drizzy were the "big three" of the rap industry with the line:

"Love when they argue the hardest MC/ Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?/ We the big three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali."

Kendrick Lamar responded to the track with his guest verse in Like That, the sixth track from Future and Metro Boomin's March album We Don't Trust You. Lamar argued that there was no big three, just "big me," and called out the two rappers for "sneak dissing."

"F**k sneak dissin', first-person shooter, I hope they came with three switches/ I crash out like, "F**k rap," diss Melle Mel if I had to/ Got 2TEEZ with me, I'm snatchin' chains and burnin' tattoos, it's up/ Lost too many soldiers not to play it safe/ If he walk around with that stick, it ain't André 3K/ Think I won't drop the location? I still got PTSD/ Motherf**k the big three, n***a, it's just big me," he rapped.

This started the back-and-forth trade of diss tracks between Lamar and Drizzy, with each rapper lobbying accusations at the other. The battle ended after Lamar released Not Like Us on May 4, with the public crowning him as the undisputed winner.

Kendrick Lamar will perform at the Super Bowl halftime show at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9, 2025.
