Chance the Rapper recently came live on Instagram on Tuesday (August 13) and explained that his upcoming project Star Line was more than just an album. In fact, he implored his fans to not call it an album at all.

All right, so this was the main point I was trying to make,” Chance started off. “Stop calling it the album. And I don’t mean that in an ungrateful way. I’m grateful that people are putting in my comments, ‘Drop the album,'” explained the rapper.

The Acid Rap artist explained to the fans why they should not be calling Star Line an album and said that he expected them to understand and acknowledge it by not calling it an album anymore.

He even went further and threatened to not release the album until people stopped calling it an 'album.'

“I’m not going to drop the album until y’all start calling it Star Line. I’m not going to drop the project. I got so much s##t ready. But I hope that y’all understand that. I understand how all this stuff works," explained Chance the Rapper.

He continued:

"‘Drop the album.’ That’s for all the other artists. That’s for all everybody else, whose work I also appreciate. But what I’m doing is something different. It’s something very specific. It’s called Star Line."

He further said that calling Star Line an album confused the rapper. It made him think that people didn't understand his work. The rapper finally said that he would drop Star Line soon if people said 'drop Star Line' instead of 'drop the album.'

AllHipHop posted the video of Chance the Rapper's Instagram live and fans expressed their opinion in the comment section. Some of the popular reactions are as follows:

"Then don’t drop it. we good unless u got Wayne on it," commented one fan on X.

One person on Instagram even blamed it on the marketing of Chance the Rapper's new album for people not knowing what to call it. He commented:

"This is what happens when you do it yourself, the marketing / awareness is sub par. First time hearing this starline shit."
"What!? Bruh petty asf/ Who tf is yall" anyway like who tf is his fan base he talking to. He is talking like he is in the top 5," commented another.
"Nobody cares if he ever drops it. The only people asking him for it are probably his family and friends," inferred someone else.

The Big Day was the debut solo album of Chance the Rapper and it was an instant hit in the beginning. The album started at #2 on the Billboard 200 list and sold over a hundred thousand album-equivalent units in the first week itself.

Despite the bombastic opening, the album underperformed in the end and didn't reach the projected numbers when compared to his earlier mixtape called Coloring Book.

Chance the Rapper's emphasis on calling Star Line by its name and not by 'album' might be because The Big Day was dubbed by fans as 'owbum.' They trolled the way Chance the Rapper enthusiastically pronounced 'album' during the promotions.

The rapper revealed on his Instagram Live that Star Line was made by his personal investment and he needed the album to be successful.

"So I got Star Line. That’s all I got for y’all. I don’t got the album. Whatever the album is, I don’t know what the album is. I know about a Star Line, you hear me? And that’s on everything," concluded the rapper.

According to his past teases of Star Line, the album potentially features big names like Vic Mensa, T-Pain, Jazze Pha, Jermaine Dupri, Lil Yachty, and Lil Wayne. Chance the Rapper hasn't yet announced a new release date for the album, even though it was originally scheduled for spring 2024.
