American rapper Method Man has revealed that he doesn't believe the arrest of Diddy symbolizes the death of hip-hop. As per the New York Times, Diddy (Sean Combs) was taken into federal custody on September 16, 2024, on charges of s*x trafficking, prostitution, and racketeering. The music mogul faces a potential 25 years in jail if found guilty. According to CNN, the Bad Boy Records boss proposed a $50 million bail package. However, the proposal was rejected.
In a TMZ interview with Method Man outside of ABC Studios in New York City (published on September 19), the rapper dismissed the claims that hip-hop has been maligned by the charges faced by the disgraced music mogul. He said:
"I don't think that it has anything to do with hip-hop, What are we talking about really?"
The rapper opined that people have long separated art from the artist, as seen with R. Kelly.
"It has nothing to do with hip-hop...at all. So, I don't see the correlation whatsoever. If we're talking about creative and music and stuff like that, there's still people listening to R. Kelly sh*t," concluded Method Man.
Currently, Diddy is behind bars and awaiting further trial.
Diddy reportedly on suicide watch at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center after being denied bail twice
Diddy is reportedly on suicide watch after being denied bail twice during his stay at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC). According to People Magazine, an insider source revealed that the rapper is reportedly in a state of shock, and his mental state is currently unclear.
The Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) is one of the most protected and infamous prisons in the United States. It is often described as "hell on earth" due to its high number of reported suicides and understaffing problems.
MDC currently houses 1600 inmates and is known for keeping hardened criminals within its premises. Previously, it was home to R Kelly, the rapper who was convicted of child s*xual abuse.
On September 17, 2024, Marc Agnifilo, Diddy's lawyer, asked for his client to be transferred to an Essex County Prison during his trial. In a statement to The Daily Beast, Agnifilo reasoned that the MDC was too dangerous for pre-trial detention for his client.
“Just earlier this summer, an inmate was murdered. At least four inmates have died by suicide there in the past three years,” said Agnifilo.
The 54-year-old's next hearing has been slated for 10 am on September 24, 2024.
