Jon B. has recently criticized the song You & Me, a collaborative single of Gunna and Chloe Bailey, which was released in 2022. The single sampled the lyrics of Jon's song, They Don't Know, and during his appearance in an episode of the podcast Can We Talk RNB, Jon said his song is sampled every year.
Jon B. then referred to Gunna and Chloe Bailey, saying that he was unsatisfied with the same. He said:
"I wished they never did. And actually they never got my rights to do that record either. So we gonna holler about that. That's some business we got to handle. But yeah I mean you know what, it's all a compliment to what we did."
The singer added that he had earned fame like everyone else and that in case someone else delivered a hit song, he wouldn't intervene and start calling it a creation of his own. Jon B. continued:
"I've been very very humble about my whole approach to this whole music industry thing. If I wanted to come out and say a lot of different things, I could be Cat Williams right now, you know. But I don't want to be thought of as a guy who's disenfranchised or sort of like, you know, complacent anyway. I'm very blessed, and I'm on top."
While the clip has gone viral on different platforms, netizens took to the comments section of the Hollywood Unlocked's Instagram post to share their responses. One of them shared his opinion about Gunna and Chloe Bailey's song by writing:
"They butchered that song so I don't blame him."
Similar reactions continued with another person claiming that the collaborative single was "horrible" and a user wrote that the same song was sampled by Chris Brown and Aaliyah, which was better in comparison to others.
Jon B.'s latest album was released earlier this year
Also known as Jonathan David Buck, he has seven albums in his credits alongside a mixtape, Digital Dynasty R&B 3. After a long wait, the singer announced a new project in January this year titled Waiting On You. The promotions began with the release of a music video for a song of the same name.
Jon B. even served as a producer for the song along with Tank and Brady Watt. Notably, the single was also included in the soundtrack of an LP titled Waiting On You, which was released on February 23, 2024.
Jon B. even shared an Instagram post in January 2024, wishing the best for everyone's "relationships, finances and dreams." He also wrote:
"Entering 2024 focused and grounded happy with every choice that led me to this moment of stillness 2023 taught me you are the truest testament to how your mindset creates your reality."
The 49-year-old even shared a statement related to the title track of the project, saying that it explains the "feeling of anticipating love in tour life." He further stated:
"No matter the timing, even when it seems like it's taking forever, you have to be patient for your partner in life. Not giving up makes it all worth the wait."
The Providence, Rhode Island native's debut album, Bonafide, was released in 1995. This was followed by more albums such as Cool Relax, Helpless Romantic, and Comfortable Swagg.
