Hip-hop mogul 50 Cent has publicly backed Drake amidst the ongoing controversy between the Toronto rapper and the record label G-Unit. On December 10, 2024, during an interview on Big Boy TV, 50 Cent weighed in on various topics, including the ongoing disputes involving Drake, Universal Music Group (UMG), and the highly publicized feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

When asked by host Kurt Alexander about his thoughts on the Drake-Kendrick Lamar battle and the role of record labels in escalating such conflicts, 50 Cent offered a candid perspective. He highlighted manipulation as a recurring theme within the music industry and his label pitting him against The Game.

"That's really the way it goes, but like you look think what he's saying they the system is done they done it they're guilty of what he said they did," 50 said.

The conversation followed recent developments. On November 25, 2024, Drake filed a petition against UMG, accusing the label of using unlawful methods to amplify Kendrick Lamar's track Not Like Us, released on May 4, 2024.

During his appearance on the Big Boy TV podcast with host Kurt Alexander, 50 Cent also shared his perspective on the ongoing dispute between Drake and Universal Music Group (UMG).

When asked to weigh in on the situation, 50 suggested that when one artist (hinting at Drake) consistently dominates the industry, record labels may create opportunities for other artists to win. In this case, he pointed to Kendrick Lamar as benefiting from such a shift.

"I think its a point where you win repeatedly, to the audience and even the artist community is going, if you win again, how Imma have my chance to win so they would rather see Kendrick in that slot and Drake you get out of here," 50 said.

The rapper further elaborated, saying that if someone criticizes the system and calls it out, the system can effectively shut them out. Fif further described the duality of record labels, suggesting that there are G-Unit and G-Not at the same time.

"Look while I am in the scope they are G-Unit and G-Not at the same time," 50 added.

50 Cent concluded by emphasizing the business-focused nature of record labels like G-Unit, owned by UMG.

He noted that the executives who once pushed his music were also promoting his former rival, The Game, suggesting that they see this as a business. He explained, highlighting that record labels prioritize profit and strategy:

"On the same system, the same person delivering the record telling you to play 50 Cents delivering the record saying play The Game, and it just business. They are looking at it like it's business."

In 2005, The Game was officially removed from G-Unit by 50 Cent, as announced on Hot 97. According to Complex, this happened due to The Game's refusal to participate in G-Unit's feuds with artists like Jadakiss, Fat Joe, and Nas.

In 2024, 50 Cent's recent remarks regarding UMG, G-Unit, and Drake tie into an ongoing dispute that began on November 25, 2024. On that date, Drake's firm, Frozen Moments LLC, filed a pre-action petition against Universal Music Group (UMG), accusing the label of charging 30 percent lower than its standard licensing rates for Kendrick Lamar's track Not Like Us. The petition, as reported by The Verge, also alleged that UMG engaged in payola.

The following day, on November 26, 2024, Drake's legal team escalated the matter by filing a second petition in Texas, targeting both UMG and iHeartRadio for defamation.

According to Revolt, the petition claimed that UMG had the option to distance itself from Not Like Us — a track that allegedly perpetuated false accusations of child abuse against Drake—but chose not to intervene.

UMG has firmly denied all allegations related to licensing irregularities, payola, and defamation. According to Hot 97, Drake, for his petition on UMG, is set to appear in court on December 20, 2024.
