Bronx rapper Cardi B opened up about her influence on the hip-hop community. In the Rolling Stone June 2024 cover story, the rapper revealed her entry into the scene acted like a butterfly effect, and changed the way the industry perceived women hip-hop artists.

In the cover story which was released on Thursday, May 16, she shared how the hip-hop world changed in a way, after she released Bodak Yellow, in 2017. Cardi B added:

"These labels was not believing in repping new rap artists. People from every single label have f-king told me this s–t in my face. They started signing new female rappers after I got signed."

The rapper's debut song became so popular that it topped the US Billboard Hot 100.

Cardi B claims she caused a butterfly effect which led more women to enter the world of hip-hop

31-year-old Cardi B recently gave an interview for the June cover story of Rolling Stone. The WAP singer shared how she believed that her immense success in the music industry pushed the industry to open its doors to many female rappers. The rapper added that it did not bother her to know if each of them would become that successful.

According to Cardi, it was enough appreciation for the women rappers who had been making good music which gained much popularity. She added:

"Whether some b–ches could be the greatest rappers [or] they just make good music — at the end of the f–king day, guess what? They’re in your playlist right now... I know for a fact I’m a staple. I know for a fact that I [opened] a f*cking door. I know for a fact that I [can] rap. I know for a fact I make f*cking hits. Sometimes people be trying to belittle me, and it’s like, 'No, I’m that bitch and y’all f*cking know it.'"

After Cardi witnessed immense success upon releasing Bodak Yellow, she dropped her debut album Invasion Of Privacy in 2018. The studio album released in April of that year was a huge success and it secured the number one spot on the US Billboard Hot 100, as well. The album then featured several guest artists including Kehlani, SZA, 21 Savage, and Bad Bunny.

Since then the 31-year-old rapper has given several hit songs that were mentioned on the US Billboard Hot 100, including I Like It, Ring, Up, WAP, Bongos, and Tomorrow 2.

Cardi B further talked about fans hounding her for new songs

While Cardi B spoke about her influence in the rap industry, Rapsody also gave similar statements about Cardi, in a previous interview with Billboard News.

She shared how the entry of Cardi paved the way for more female rappers to enter the field and record their tracks. In the May interview, Rapsody said:

"I think the way that Cardi supported so many women also helped as well. Because of who she was and the success she had and to speak people’s names and to work with the artists that she did, it definitely made room and space for other artists."

Apart from Cardi B, Rapsody also credited Nicky Minaj for opening a door for many women rappers to step into the industry. The Bronx rapper's first studio album Invasion Of Privacy entered its sixth anniversary last month.

While talking about the project that kickstarted her career, Cardi explained how it was super successful and "broke all records."

"6 years later I’m preparing to drop the next one this year.. it’s so different from what everyone is expecting and I’m sooo excited, added the Bongos rapper.

While Cardi tweeted earlier this week that there would be no new music this year, she seemed to be changing the decision. Her representatives have reportedly told Rolling Stone that a new album is set to release in 2024. In the now-deleted tweet, Cardi B revealed that she wanted to "relax" this year.

She even spoke about the issue of her fans trolling her for not releasing more music to Rolling Stone. She revealed how one user wrote that she failed to drop music since she didn't take it seriously. The rapper revealed:

"Like yesterday, I was scrolling through TikTok and a b*tch made me cry... I take my music so f*cking seriously that that’s why I don’t put it out."

Cardi B also added how hurtful it was to hear such comments when she puts so much effort into making new music. According to the rapper, she had refused to do several concerts since she didn't have new songs.

This year, she has released two songs- Like What (Freestyle) and Enough (Miami) which have garnered good popularity.
