50 Cent (aka Curtis Jackson) opened up about his Super Bowl LVI halftime performance in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on July 31, 2024. According to the rapper, he was not initially on the set list put out by Jay-Z's Rock Nation, but Eminem threatened to bail out at the last moment if 50 Cent was not included in the list of performing artists.
“They wanted to leave me out of it. They didn’t want me there.”
Super Bowl LVI was played at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. The game ended with the Los Angeles Rams defeating the Cincinnati Bengals by a scoreline of 23-20.
However, several thousands of fans wait for the star-studded Halftime Show in this game and 2022 was no different. Managed by Jay-Z's Roc Nation, the itinerary included Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, and others. However, 50-Cent wasn't on that list despite his performance at the event.
“Eminem wouldn’t do it without me. That’s how I ended up on the show because he was not coming if I didn’t do it. When that happens, you go, Damn, so you just lost Eminem because you didn’t bring 50? Damn. All right. Bring 50 then,"
50 Cent continued,
"But if it was up to them, they would not have me there. I’m the surprise. I’m not on the bill at all. But they couldn’t get Em to do it without me.”
Eminem also spoke about 50 Cent according to the report on The Hollywood Reporter. The rapper called 50 his brother and said,
“50 is like a brother to me. 50 has proven again and again that there’s really nothing he can’t do, and nobody gets in the way of him getting it done.”
50 Cent also commented on the Emmy Awards and the ongoing feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar
Besides talking about his snubbing by Jay-Z's Roc Nation, 50 Cent also opened up about his frustration with the Emmy Award committee because they never nominated his show Power or its spinoffs for the awards. The rapper pointed out that the show was one of the most popular ones in all African American households and insinuated that it was being snubbed because of the discrimination against African Americans and Latinos.
"The easiest way to point it out to the public is the actual facts: When the show is clearly No. 1 in African American households, if you don’t want to acknowledge it, you don’t want to acknowledge African Americans and Latinos. It’s a choice. I don’t know if it’s OK, but it’s a choice."
The rapper was also asked about the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar and he pointed out that "Drake's success" is the reason for him getting so much hate. According to 50 Cent, people want to see him come down.
"When it becomes Drake versus Kendrick, it’s because it’s the only thing you can put up against Drake’s success."
The rapper concluded by noting the fact that the beef would not hurt Drake's position or sales. People who buy Drake's albums will continue doing so when his next project comes out.
