Jay-Z has responded to claims of inconsistencies from the accuser, referred to as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, as per Complex. The rapper has been accused of r*pe in a lawsuit refiled on December 8, 2024. The case, originally brought against Diddy and filed by Tony Buzbee in the Southern District of New York back in October, now also implicates Jay-Z.
According to NBC News, the alleged victim is a woman from Alabama who claims she was 13 years old when she was reportedly r*ped by Diddy and Jay-Z in 2000. However, she spoke to the outlet on Friday, December 13, claiming that there were some inconsistencies in her allegations. She suggested that she made a mistake in identifying the person who allegedly assaulted her.
Following this, Jay-Z specifically called out Tony Buzbee, stating that the attorney had "filed a false complaint" for his benefit. Speaking about the alleged incident, the rapper continued:
"This incident didn't happen and yet he filed it in court and doubled down in the press. True justice is coming. We fight from victory, not for victory. This was over before it began. This 1-800 lawyer doesn't realize it yet, but, soon."
His attorney, Alex Spiro, also released a statement criticizing Buzbee's actions. Spiro accused Buzbee of filing the complaint without conducting proper investigations and offered everything to the press, due to which the entire situation took a worse turn. He added:
"We are asking the Court to dismiss this frivolous case today, and will take up the matter of additional discipline for Mr. Buzbee and all the lawyers that filed the complaint."
Jay-Z responded to the alleged victim's claims in the legal documents
Jay-Z issued a lengthy statement through the official X account of Roc Nation, a day after the lawsuit was refiled.
The rapper called the accusations in the lawsuit "heinous," adding that a criminal complaint must be filed against the person who committed the crime. He mentioned:
"My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a "lawyer" named Tony Buzbee. What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle. No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a very public fashion. So no, I will not give you one red penny!!"
Jay-Z continued addressing Buzbee, sharing that he has done some research on him. He remarked:
"This lawyer, who I have done a bit of research on, seems to have a pattern of these type of theatrics! I have no idea how you have come to be such a deplorable human Mr. Buzbee, but I promise you I have seen your kind many times over. I'm more than prepared to deal with your type."
Furthermore, the rapper expressed sympathy for the alleged victim, saying that children should never endure such things at a young age. He said that he supports all the victims around the world, adding that he is not like other celebrities and that people like him maintain "strict codes and honor."
Accusations against Jay-Z explained in brief
According to the legal documents obtained by People magazine, the alleged victim recounted meeting a limo driver back in 2000 after being dropped by her friend at the Radio City Music Hall to attend the MTV Video Music Awards.
The lawsuit stated that the driver reportedly introduced himself as an employee of Diddy and took the alleged victim to an afterparty. Upon arrival, she allegedly signed a document and later went to lie down in an empty room when she had a drink.
The alleged victim stated in the lawsuit that Diddy and Jay-Z came inside the room after some time and r*ped her. She said that Jay reportedly put his hand on top of her mouth and tried to overpower her. The girl somehow ran away from the house and came to a gas station, where she used a phone to contact her father.
"I called my dad because he was the only person I trust at that time. I told him I messed up and I needed a ride home. We rode home in silence. He didn't ask me what happened. He didn't ask me what I did or where I was."
However, while speaking to NBC News on December 13, the alleged victim's father stated that he could not recall the events of that day. He noted that it would take around five hours to drive to the place from which his daughter claimed to have called him.
