Kendrick Lamar threw another jab at Drake during his latest live performance of Euphoria. On Juneteenth (June 19), the Grammy-winner had a one-off show titled “The Pop Out: Ken and Friends” at Kia Forum, Los Angeles.
During the rendition of his scathing diss track Euphoria, released on April 30, Dot changed part of the lyrics and rapped:
“Give me Tupac’s ring back and I might give you a little respect.”
The original lyric was:
“Matter of fact I ain't even bleed him yet, can I bleed him?”
Fans soon took to social media to react to Kendrick's new shots at the Canadian rapper. DJ Akademiks, who was also in the headlines during Dot and Dreezy’s infamous rap battle last month, was livestreaming the June 19 concert.
A small snippet from his livestream containing the part where the Compton rapper changed the lyric was posted on X, prompting reactions from netizens. One user wrote Kendrick and Drake’s beef might not end anytime soon after the former changed the lyric in Euphoria.
Here are some other reactions:
"He baited him again lol", wrote one.
"Yeah I always knew the Tupac ring was the last straw. He couldn't take it anymore", another commented.
"This man is ruthless for this one", expressed one person.
A few others said Kendrick Lamar could have bought Tupac's ring so he did not have to rap about Drake owning it.
"Worrying bout Tupac ring when u could’ve just bought it", one user wrote.
"Kenny acting like Drake stole the ring he brought it if kenny was on it like that he should have brought it he cool with the estate right?", opined another.
Tupac Shakur has been a longtime inspiration for Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar has revered Tupac Shakur for a long time and has openly expressed his profound admiration and respect for the late rapper. He previously spoke about visiting the set for Tupac’s music video California Love as a kid. In 2015, the Compton rapper penned a heartwarming tribute for Tupac, recalling meeting the late rapper for the first time when he was 8 years old.
“I couldn’t describe how I felt at that moment. So many emotions. Full of excitement. Full of joy and eagerness. 20 yrs later I understand exactly what that feeling was. Inspired,” he wrote.
Drake supposedly got hold of the crown ring for $1 million during an auction to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop music in New York City. Tupac’s crown ring contains gold, diamonds, and ruby while featuring an inscription that says, “Pac & Dada 1996”. It referred to his engagement to Kidada Jones.
The late rapper sported the ring at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards, which marked his final public appearance. He was killed days later in a shooting in Las Vegas.
Kendrick Lamar paid another homage to Tupac during his Ken and Friends concert as he performed California Love with Dr. Dre on stage.
