Popular American rock band Aerosmith has announced its retirement on August 03. Sharing a heartfelt post on Instagram and X, the band declared that they would retire from the touring stage owing to Steven Tyler’s vocal cord injury. This announcement seems to have devastated not just fans but also famous music personalities like Brian May.
The Queen member took to his Instagram and poured his thoughts about this announcement. The news made him teary-eyed as the band has been a huge part of his life. According to him, the band’s work shall continue to live on.
“This has brought a tear to my eye. Aerosmith have been a huge part of my life, as they have been for millions of other rock fans. Steven Tyler stands as one the greatest vocalists and front men of all time - and it's heartbreaking that his extraordinary voice has been so damaged. We all send our love and prayers for your recovery, Steve.”
The post continued:
“It's also typical of the pure class of the band that they have made and broadcast this bold decision in such style. The career of Aerosmith is truly something to celebrate forever. All things must pass - but the inspiring work of Aerosmith will live on - along with the memories of truly one of the most awesome bands to ever hit a stage. Bri”, wrote Brian May.
Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has been undergoing treatment since last year
In September 2023, the lead singer suffered a vocal cord injury during a performance. However, the injury was more critical than it was initially anticipated. His doctor confirmed that the 76-year-old singer not only damaged his vocal cords but also fractured his larynx.
Several concerts had to be postponed. In November, Steven Tyler posted a photo on Facebook where he was seen in a studio. His satirical caption hinted towards his recovery.
“Throats on the mend…but my ears still work! So in the meantime…it’s studio time…starting re-mixing Aerosmith Aerosmith”, wrote Steven.
Although the singer took a step back from singing, he was seen on stage back in February 2024 to host the annual Jam for Janie Grammy Awards. He said that his throat was doing better and was undergoing treatment. Even though he performed on stage that day, he chose to play the drums and not sing.
However, as evident from the band’s post on X, a complete recovery of Steven’s voice does not seem possible despite the singer’s tireless efforts to get back his old voice. The rock band has sold more than 150 million albums across the globe. It started its musical journey in 1970 and has continued to amuse music enthusiasts for more than five decades. With 15 album releases, it has been one of the greatest bands in American history.
