Canadian rapper and singer Tom MacDonald dropped a single titled You Missed on July 14. The song is based on the premise of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent assassination attempt.

The two-minute and 16-second-long song began with a description that read:

“The events that took place yesterday are a horrifying example of political extremism in America. During a rally, shots were fired in an attempt on Donald Trump’s life. They missed.”

Immediately after, Tom MacDonald began rapping, “They burning the country down with their progressiveness…” and threw shots at the USA’s “woke” culture. He also called out those who took Trump’s assassination attempt lightly and reminded them that the incident left a rallygoer dead and two others severely injured.

"They don’t want an election/ They got so offended by the freedom that they just tried killing the President/ I used to think that the woke were misguided but now I can see they're evil/ Twitter is angry that Trump isn't dead, you know who got shot? Innocent people," he rapped.

He further continued:

"I thought you were tolerant, thought we were equals/ Then why are you celebrating an attempted assassination?"

In the wake of the release of You Missed, the internet is having varied reactions.

For instance, YouTube user @hellomikie92 commented on Tom MacDonald’s official video of the song by mocking the singer for his misplaced patriotism.

“This Canadian is a very patriotic American,” the person wrote.

However, many conservatives and Trump supporters seemed to appreciate the rap number’s lyrics. Here are some of the comments from X.

Exploring the background of Tom MacDonald’s You Missed

On July 13, Donald Trump was delivering a speech at a Republican campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania when he was shot in his right ear and was left wounded.

The U.S. Secret Service counter-sniper team located the alleged shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks on the roof of a nearby building outside of the venue and had him neutralized.

However, before that, the 20-year-old Crooks shot eight rounds from his AR-15 rifle injuring not only the Republican presidential nominee for the upcoming election but also a 50-year-old rally-goer named Corey Comperatore, who died at the scene. Two others were left severely injured.

In less than 24 hours, Canadian rapper-singer Tom MacDonald released a song based on the incident, titled You Missed. While he claimed, “Thank God, the Left can’t aim,” in the song insinuating that Trump’s alleged shooter was a left/ Democratic supporter, Crooks was reportedly identified as a registered Republican and a former supporter of Donald Trump.

ABC affiliate WTAE-TV even reported that neighbors saw pro-Trump signs on Crooks' yard outside his native home in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, until a few months back.

You Missed debuted at number one on the U.S. iTunes chart and remained there for nearly a day. It was written, rapped, and beat produced by MacDonald himself, while it was mixed and mastered by Evan Morgan.

Tom MacDonald’s lyrics especially the line “Freedom ain’t afraid of violence” and the chorus “B*tch, you missed!” have since resonated with conservatives, who are now using them in their slogans/ anthems.
