ScHoolboy Q's THank God 4 Me music video was released in September
ScHoolboy Q released the music video for his song THank God 4 Me on September 19, 2024. The video was directed by Omar Jones, who is known for directing music videos for artists like Pusha T and Chris Brown. According to LLB Online, Jones claimed he wanted the video to reflect the rapper's duality, adding:
"With 'Thank God for Me,' Schoolboy Q confidently asserts his legendary status while staying true to his roots. I wanted the video to reflect this duality - capturing his confident energy alongside deeper themes of loyalty, staying true, and hard work, while also feeling like a daydream or an anthology flick."
He continued:
"The video moves between bold narrative moments involving a snitch and introspective reflections, embodying the essence of both the song and the entire Blue Lips album’s narrative arc."
The song reportedly explores the complexities of being a rapper and a celebrity garnering fame in the entertainment industry. Along with the music video for THank God 4 Me, ScHoolboy also released the MV for two other songs - Lost Times and Nunu.
Blue Lips is ScHoolboy Q's first album in five years since he released Crash Talk in 2019. The 18-track album debuted at No. 13 on Billboard 200. In a March 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, ScHoolboy said Blue Lips was his "best work yet."
He also said that the album summed up the "first half of his career," adding he wanted to work more and "keep creating." When asked why Blue Lips took five years to be released, he said the first two years didn't count because of the pandemic. He added that he worked on the album the following year, and the last two years were spent tweaking it to make an album "that don’t sound like the rest of them."
