Earlier this month, singer, songwriter, and actress Ariana Grande appeared as a guest on Penn Badgley’s Podcrushed podcast and got candid about the time when she told a fan that she would like to have dinner with late serial killer Jeffery Dahmer.

Ariana Grande recalled that during the transition between her time as the co-lead on the sitcom Sam & Cat and her becoming a pop singer (about a decade ago), she used to often organize Q&A sessions with her fans. During that, a fan asked her which living or dead person would she want to have her “dream dinner” with. She responded:

"I was like, 'Oh, you are so cute. Who, um — mom and dad [of the fan], is it okay if I give the real answer?' And they were like, 'Sure, I guess, what's the answer?' And I was like, 'Um, Jeffrey Dahmer's pretty fascinating, I think I would have loved to have met him. Like, you know, maybe with a third party or something.”

The Grammy winner further explained why she wished to get in touch with the Milwaukee Monster. She said:

“I have questions I want to...I have a lot to...I don't know, I would love to...' And the parents were like, 'We'll explain it later, sweetheart.' And I was like, 'I'll just sing "Problem" and go home.’”

While the co-hosts Penn Badgley, Sophie Ansari, and Nava Kavelin appeared to be shocked at her “not funny, but perhaps fine” anecdote, her fans are now chiming in with many deeming the story inappropriate to share with the world.

An Instagram user @_jess2pretty took to the comment section of The Neighborhood Talk’s post sharing Ariana Grande’s podcast moment. They wrote:

Several others joined in the conversation on social media platform X(formerly Twitter) and are calling out Ariana Grande.

“Ewwww, she is disgusting for that,” a person wrote.
“The most problematic unbothered pop girl,” another person wrote.
“Sorry, you’re not his type,” an individual wrote.
“That’s not cool Ariana,” another individual wrote.

While some netizens also pointed out that it allegedly could be offensive to his victim's families and that the singer might have taken it too far.

“She doesn’t wanna live it seems,” a netizen wrote.
“I’m scared by this information,” another netizen wrote.
“That’s kind of weird and makes me question Ariana a bit,” one person wrote.

However, Ariana Grande has not addressed the backlash so far.

Further in the interview which was released on June 25 as part of Pocrushed’s 72nd episode, Ariana Grande confessed to being “infatuated with serial killers” during her younger days. She also mentioned how she was intrigued by true crime stories.

The topic came up when she was asked about why she kept casting serial killer characters in her music videos, including the recent The Boy is Mine video, which has the supervillain theme and a collaboration with Penn Badgley.

Badgley also shared that in the little time she has known Ariana, she showed her interest in horror films, spooky stories as well as Halloween.
