Coldplay and Maggie Rogers covered Taylor Swift's song after she had to cancel her Vienna shows. On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, as part of their Music of the Spheres world tour show at Ernst Happel Stadium in the city, the band honored Swift by performing her 2008 hit Love Story during the opening act by Rogers.

For the uninitiated, Taylor Swift was set to perform at the venue on August 8 through 10 as part of her Eras Tour, but the shows were canceled after officials learned of a planned terror attack.

Rogers later shared the clip on her Instagram with the caption:

"From Vienna with love @coldplay @taylorswift."

As news of the surprise Love Story performance spread, internet users were quick to express their joy. One stated:

"This is everything and more."

"Cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear"- Taylor Swift shares a statement about canceled shows

Talking to the concertgoers about performing Love Story, Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin explained:

"We haven't mentioned that Vienna was in the news all over the world for all the wrong reasons. But what reached us was the beauty and the togetherness, and kindness of all of Taylor Swift's fans."

Martin stated that with them being in Vienna, they felt they had to do the best they could, adding that they care about Swifties.

Taylor Swift's shows were canceled after Austrian authorities arrested two men with suspected connections to ISIS. They found detailed plans for a possible terror attack with them.

Following her canceled shows, fans gathered at Cornelia Street in Vienna. The city renamed the street as a tribute to the artist (Cornelia Street is a track from her 2019 album Lover).

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift resumed her Eras tour for a five-night show at Wembley Stadium in London. At the time, the Metropolitan Police released a statement confirming that the matter being investigated in Vienna would have no impact on the concerts in London.

On Wednesday, August 21, Swift herself shared a statement in a lengthy Instagram post, calling the past few weeks a "rollercoaster of emotions." She wrote:

"Having our Vienna shows canceled was devastating. The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives."

Swift explained that she took her time breaking the silence to not provoke those who could harm her fans. She explained that showing restraint and expressing herself at the right time was important. Swift has not commented on the development at the time of writing.
