American rapper and actor 50 Cent has taken to social media to slam Sean “Diddy” Combs over his apology video following shared surveillance footage of the latter assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, at a hotel in Los Angeles in 2016.
The video, released by CNN, appears to show Combs shoving his ex-girlfriend to the ground near an elevator bank, kicking her several times as she lies on the ground, then dragging her down a hallway. The video quickly went viral and has prompted widespread criticism.
On Sunday, May 19, Combs took to social media to issue an apology via a 70-second video he posted on Instagram in response to the clip that went viral. He said:
“My behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now.”
Combs further stated that he was at “rock bottom” and claimed to have “sought out professional help, started going to therapy and rehab.”
However, after Combs's apology video went live, it didn’t sit right with many fans and celebrities alike. 50 Cent was among the celebrities who shared their thoughts on Combs’s apology video, calling it a “bad move.”
The G-Unit Films founder reposted Combs’s video on Instagram with the caption:
“This is not going to work, who is advising him right now? SMH bad move.”
Many other netizens and celebrities have shared their thoughts after weighing in on Diddy’s video assaulting Ventura. They didn’t hesitate to call out the music mogul on social media over it.
“He apologized to the world for seeing what he did” — Aubrey O’Day and other celebs comment on Diddy’s apology video
American singer Aubrey O’Day, a former member of the group Danity Kane formed by Combs, called out the latter in a post on X, slamming him for not apologizing to Ventura. She wrote:
“Diddy did not apologize to Cassie. He apologized to the world for seeing what he did.”

O’Day then called out the music mogul for keeping up a December 2023 Instagram post, calling out “sickening” allegations made by people trying to assassinate his character and destroy his reputation. She continued:
“He says he’s ’disgusted w himself now, and he was disgusted w himself the,’.. but apparently he wasn’t disgusted enough w himself to not PIN this statement out calling her a liar & denying all of it.. leave god and mercy out of this they aren’t present here, and you know it.”
Elsewhere on social media, netizens were unmoved by Diddy’s apology video.
“There is absolutely nothing genuine about the apology video Diddy just dropped. Even after Diddy settled Cassie’s lawsuit he was still denying the allegations and insisting folk were lying on his character but now we’re supposed to buy that he’s been taking ownership of it,” said one netizen on X.
“This man is trash. This fake apology is trash. I feel bad for his daughters,” another one commented.
“He is a true abuser. Thinking that what he did is and can be forgiven with an apology. That’s a sign he doesn’t see what he did as extreme and not normal. And he thinks a simple sorry can fix it. ABUSER!,” a netizen wrote on X.

Despite taking responsibility for his actions, Combs came out free of any criminal charges. As per the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, the statutes of limitations for the assault and battery charges the rapper have expired years ago, so no charges can be made.
