Travis Scott recently reacted to Coldplay covering his song Goosebumps, during a concert at the Accor Stadium in Sydney on Sunday, November 10. The show was the last one of a four-night gig at the 83,000-capacity venue, and was a part of their Music of the Spheres world tour.
During the performance, Chris Martin took several song requests from the audience, and one fan requested he play Travis Scott's Goosebumps. Martin then ran around the stage, singing and engaging with the audience, while his bandmates delivered a guitar-heavy rendition of Scott's 2016 chartbuster.
“Goosebumps, that’s my favorite Travis Scott song,” Chris Martin was reportedly heard shouting.
The cover caught the attention of Travis Scott, who hopped on X to lavish praise on Coldplay's guitar-heavy reimagining of Goosebumps. La Flame quoted a 17-second clip of Coldplay performing the song.
"This got it [goat emoji]," he wrote.
Chris Martin once cited Travis Scott's influence on his music, talking about how his daughters help keep him in touch with contemporary music. In an October 2021 interview with USA Today, Martin credited his daughters, Moses and Apple, with exposing him to modern sounds that helped the band explore.
“I think that hanging out with teenagers can’t help but influence what you listen to and talk about and you’re learning as much from them as they are from you... It’s cool when your kids start getting you into things. That’s how I got into Travis Scott or The 1975 or Olivia Rodrigo or whoever it may be,” said Martin.
The unexpected inclusion of Goosebumps has excited several fans about a possible future collaboration between the two artists.
Travis Scott once broke a Guinness World Record with Goosebumps
Goosebumps was the third single from Scott's second studio album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight. Released by Grand Hustle Records and Epic Records, the song also featured Kendrick Lamar and was released on December 13, 2016.
In addition to becoming a major chartbuster that year, the song helped Travis Scott get his name on the Guinness World Record books. On May 15, Scott performed the song 14 consecutive times in front of an excited crowd during his Oklahoma City show.
It became the most number of times a song was consecutively performed in a single show by an artist. The record was previously held by Kanye West and Jay-Z, who performed N*ggas In Paris during the Paris leg of their Watch The Throne tour in 2012.
Six days later, Scott broke his own record when he performed Goosebumps 15 times in a row, while performing at Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica in Cleveland, Ohio. Although there is no video of the performance, Scott tweeted about the same, and the post went viral in no time.
Goosebumps received a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in January 2017 and peaked at number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. On March 28, Scott announced that the song had received Platinum certification for selling one million equivalent units in the United States.
Spanish DJ and producer Hvme also created a deep house version of the song. Goosebumps (Remix) was released with Scott's approval on January 15, 2021. The musical number debuted at number 85 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to peak at number 47. It also claimed a spot atop the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart.
