Dominique Armani Jones, a.k.a. Lil Baby, recently previewed a track from his upcoming album, WHAM. On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, the rapper dropped his song, Streets Colder, a collaboration with the popular series From The Block Performance.
In the video, Jones is seen in the West End neighborhood in Atlanta, sitting with wads of cash and rapping:
"They might have a lot to say, but they gon' never face you/ You gotta learn to embrace it, don't let it break you/ It's hard as Hell tryna make it, even hard to save me."
As the track went viral, internet users were quick to share their takes. One referencing Jones' recent feud with Gunna over the latter's negotiated plea deal during the YSL Rico trial (many criticized Gunna for allegedly snitching on Young Thug— a claim Gunna, Thug, and their lawyers denied), commented:
"This is the guy they're taking over Gunna???"
Many stated that Lil Baby needed to reinvent himself, as his songs sound repetitive. Here are some comments seen under @nfr_podcast's post on X:
"Sounds like every song he made in 2021," one stated.
"Great word play, flow, and rhyme schemes but it’s not enough, dude needs to reinvent himself," a user critiqued.
"Bruh I can’t hear a single word what he’s saying," another quipped.
Others shared positive feedback, some even expressing their excitement about the whole album.
"That second verse clears any verse gunna put out in 2024, if you disagree you’re wrong," one reacted.
"This actually pretty good can’t wait to hear more," a fan commented.
"HE'S BACKKKKKKK," another added.
Lil Baby is set to drop two albums in 2025— WHAM and Dominique
In Streets Colder, Lil Baby raps about his upbringing and family issues as the world moves around him.
"Started off in the trap house and took it major/ Got a gang task tryna f**k us off, switched up my whole entourage/ Puttin' all my hundreds up only, using my credit card," some of the bars went.
Jones announced his upcoming album, WHAM (an acronym for Who Hard as Me), following his sold-out birthday concert (held on December 7, 2024) at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. He added that it would be released on January 3, 2025.
Lil Baby also revealed that Streets Colder is the fourth song from the project. Previously released tracks include 5AM and Insecurities, dropped on November 14 and 15, respectively, followed by Touchdown on December 6.
Just days before Christmas, the rapper surprised fans by releasing the album's official artwork and track listing for WHAM. The posts confirmed guest appearances by 21 Savage, Future, Glorilla, Rod Wave, Rylo Rodriguez, Travis Scott, and Young Thug.
The same day, Lil Baby appeared on Lil Yachty‘s A Safe Place podcast, where he revealed he was dropping two albums in 2025—WHAM and Dominique (Jones' fourth and fifth studio albums). He explained that the two projects showcased two separate themes, stating:
"I still put some of the songs I was gonna use for Dominique on WHAM 'cause I know my fanbase really want to hear them certain songs. WHAM is more me on some young n**ga sh*t—fast cars, girls, jewelry, money. You know, the turnt lifestyle."
During the interview, Lil Baby added that Dominique was more "serious" and "personal." He explained that it represented the "new journey (he was) on" and that he was showing a more "vulnerable" side of himself to his fans. He also addressed the divided opinions about WHAM, stating that "the internet will say anything" and that it didn't make sense.
