Netizens had a go at American singer and rapper Pharrell Williams after he opened up about his views on celebrities endorsing political parties. The 51-year-old discussed his views on politics, work, and personal story in the animated feature Piece by Piece, published by The Hollywood Reporter on September 11, 2024.

When Pharrell Williams was asked about the upcoming Presidential Election, he preferred to remain aloof from the commotion, revealing that he gets annoyed by celebrities who try to promote political parties.

"I get annoyed sometimes when I see celebrities trying to tell you [who to vote for]. There are celebrities that I respect that have an opinion, but not all of them. I’m one of them people [who says], “What the heck? Shut up. Nobody asked you,” opined Pharrell Williams.

In the wake of Pharrell Williams' comments, the internet had divided reactions. While many criticized the singer for his controversial opinion, few supported his statements. Some popular posts on X are as follows:

"This is why he’s irrelevant and Taylor is selling out stadiums," commented one fan on X.
"he could endorse trump and nobody would care…it’s a shade at his relevance," opined another.
"can we leave him in the 2000s and move?" tweeted another fan on X.
"He doesn't understand the tactics of staying relevant. You gotta pick a side," quipped another.

Meanwhile, some fans supported Pharrell Williams, expressing their gratitude for allegedly stating facts.

"Yessss! thank you pharrell," wrote a fan.
"Pharrell’s got a point—sometimes the loudest voices aren’t always the ones we need to hear," agreed another fan.
"Pharrell keeping it real! Sometimes celebs just need to stick to the music and leave the politics to the politicians!" declared another fan on X.

Pharrell's comments followed Taylor Swift's September 10, 2024, endorsement of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on Instagram. Swift condemned the use of AI-generated models of her at Donald Trump's rallies and praised Kamala Harris as a "steady-handed, gifted leader" capable of improving the country.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes, I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Taylor Swift wrote.

Finally, she lauded Harris' running mate Tim Walz for his efforts pertaining to LGBTQIA+ rights, IVF, and a woman's right to her own body. Taylor Swift signed off by calling herself a 'Childless Cat Lady' - a moniker coined for Kamala Harris by Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance in a 2021 interview.

With less than two months to go, the United States Presidential race is at its business end. It will be interesting to see if other big names in the industry pick their sides in the coming days.
