"This is like a murderer killing a murderer" - Netizens react as Matty Healy apologizes, implies social media break post-Azealia Banks feud

1975 frontman Matty Healy seemingly implied he was going on a social media hiatus after a recent feud with Azealia Banks. The singer took to his now-deleted X account (@Goodmorninguys) to state that he was going to "stick to music."

The singer added that he didn't have "the right kind of intelligence/emotional maturity" for social media before implying that he was going to take a break.

"Guys I don't have the right kind of intelligence/ emotional maturity etc for social media I literally just end up saying stuff that immediately regret etc. I'm actually just gonna stick to music cos I'm good at that. Having manic episodes on twitter at 35 is kinda pathetic," Healy wrote.

Healy's post came after his back-and-forth with Banks, which began after she made negative remarks about Charli XCX's appearance. It is worth noting that Charli is engaged to 1975 member George Daniel. At one point during the back-and-forth, Healy reportedly threatened to slap Azealia.

As news of Matty Healy allegedly taking a break from social media went viral, netizens took to X to react to the same. They were posting comments on Pop Base's X post about the same.

Many joked that Banks made Healy quit social media, while some stated that what the latter was doing was "pathetic." Other fans said that both Banks and Healy were problematic personalities and they couldn't "even call her a queen," due to her previous behavior.

"Charli used to be soooo pretty"- Azealia Banks' comments about Charli XCX that sparked beef with Matty Healy

The feud between Matty Healy and Azealia Banks began after the latter made comments about Charli XCX's looks.

She reposted a tweet by user @mazzypopstar about Charli's Break the Rules music video, stating that the singer used to be "soooo pretty."

"Charli used to be soooo pretty. Ugh. Boaaa, I swear them weho gays be having the girls questioning themselves meanwhile they all scraping k off a cookie sheet, eating cold bossanova and sharing panties. Tuh."

Matty Healy defended his friend in a tweet, which has since been deleted, and said the women the rapper "attack[s]" were all "culturally relevant, attractive, divisive and NICE people."

"Azealia you seem to have a blind spot when it comes to your ‘reads’. All the women you attack seem to be culturally relevant, attractive, divisive and NICE people. I think this makes you jealous cos you’re so talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap bro," Healy wrote.

This sparked a back-and-forth between the two, which also reportedly got aggressive including, Azealia Banks making negative comments about Matty Healy's fiancé. As she reshared one of Healy's posts, Banks made a comment about Healy's fiancé Gabbriette Bechtel's appearance.

"The b*tch look like Frankenstein to me. You both look like you share needles. Lmao," she wrote.

According to a December 2024 article by Billboard, this comment led to the 1975 frontman to state that he would "f*cking slap" Azealia Banks. However, Matty Healy deleted the post and apologized for his comments.

Billboard cited Healy's response to his own comment where he said that he couldn't say that he would hit a girl, adding that he was sorry. However, he did note that he got "defensive" when someone was "so mean" to his bandmates and his fiancé

"Nah I can’t be saying I’m gonna hit a girl that’s insane I’m sorry. You just can’t keep being so mean about my mates and my mrs it’s really hurtful gets me well defensive," the singer wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

Banks then threatened to sue Healy and even leaked his private messages with him, where he was apologizing to her. The singer has since suggested going off social media and his account also has been deactivated.

Meanwhile, Banks continued to make comments about Healy and condemned him for his past actions, including his making racist remarks about Ice Spice. She also mentioned 1975 being sued in Malaysia after Matty Healy kissed bandmate Ross MacDonald and addressed the country's anti-LGBTQ stance.

Banks is known to go on slur-filled beefs with several celebrities (sometimes one-sided ones and has previously had feuds with Cardi B, A$AP Rocky, and Iggy Azalea.

In October she commented that Lil Nas X "fell off so hard" and went on to attack his personal and professional lives.
