As Apple Music released its list of the 100 best albums of all time, Joe Budden expressed his disappointment about the same on his podcast. Stating how he agrees with some of the rankings, he also expressed how he felt that most of the iconic albums were missing from the list. Joe Budden said:

“Just talking about solely R&B, what they did with Sade‘s Love Deluxe, Usher‘s Confessions, SZA‘s Ctrl, Prince and Michael Jackson]is egregious. This list is disrespectful to a lot of R&B actually. There are a lot of phenomenal R&B albums missing. Marvin Gaye‘s What’s Going On not making the Top 10 tells you that they disrespected the rest of R&B.”

However, Joe Budden noted that the placement of Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City in the list was absolutely correct.

Apple Music released its Top 100 Albums list earlier this month, which led to a lot of debate among singers and musicians.

The top 10 albums in the list are The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Thriller by Michael Jackson, Abbey Road by The Beatles, Purple Rain by Prince & The Revolution, Blonde by Frank Ocean, Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder, Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City by Kendrick Lamar, Back to Black by Amy Winehouse, Nevermind by Nirvana and Lemonade by Beyonce.

Joe Budden is not the only one to criticise Apple Music's Top 100 Albums List as Jermaine Dupri also disapproved of it last week

As Apple Music released its Top 100 Albums List in May 2024, several artists including Joe Budden criticised it. At the same time, Jermaine Dupri also disapproved of the list as he posted about the same on X.

Like Budden, he also stated that “R&B was overlooked,” as Dupri said:

"Looking at this @AppleMusic top 100 albums list is sad, the disrespect to R&B is CR*ZY!!!!! It’s giving not worthy."

Releasing the Top 100 Best Albums list in May, Apple Music stated on their website:

“Welcome to 100 Best Albums—our definitive list of the greatest albums ever made. Assembled with the help of artists and experts, it’s a modern love letter to the records that have shaped the world we live and listen in today.”

While both Joe Budden and Jermaine Dupri criticised the list for not having enough R&B albums on the list, the list comprises many R&B albums by various artists like Confessions by Usher on Number 95, A Seat at the Table by Solange at Number 93, and My Life by Mary J. Blige at Number 86.

The list also has other R&B albums like SOS by SZA at Number 72, What’s Going On by Marvin Gaye at Number 17 and Love Deluxe by Sade at Number 61.

Joe Budden is best known for his albums like Mood Muzik 3, Halfway House, Padded Room, Escape Route, No Love Lost, All Love Lost and even Rage & The Machine.
