MUNA joins the list of artists who have recently taken to criticizing their fanbase's unpleasant behavior. On September 8, the American indie pop band, consisting of Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson, and Josette Maskin, took to Instagram stories to write a lengthy post condemning some fans' behavior which amounted to stalking and cyberbullying.

"Cyberstalking, hackings, bullying other fans & our loved ones, plus spreading falsehoods about us and our loved ones for clout and attention online has been going on for months and we have to adddrss it now for our own safety and peace of mind. this s**t is truly scary for us and it’s literally embarrassing to have to post about this but here we are," the statement read.

MUNA also mentioned it had no intention of naming names but asked people to "cut it the fck out."

This comes weeks after singer Chappell Roan called out entitled fans for overstepping her boundaries. In an Instagram post on August 24, the Casual singer said she had been in several "nonconsensual physical and social interactions" since she gained popularity.

"I want to be an artist for a very very long time. I’ve been in too many nonconsensual physical and social interactions and I just need to lay it out and remind you, women don’t owe you s**t. I chose this career path because because I love music and art and honoring my inner child, I do not accept harassment of any kind because I chose this path, nor do I deserve it," Roan wrote.

Roan also posted a series of videos on TikTok elaborating on her fanbase's obsessive, creepy, and predatory behavior. Her comments were praised by several musicians, including Paramore's Hayley Williams.

MUNA's Katie Gavin will release her solo debut album in October

Katie Gavin, one of the members of the band, will release her debut album on October 25, 2024. The 12-track album, titled What a Relief, will be released via Phoebe Bridgers' label. In a July 2024 interview with WBUR, Gavin called her upcoming album her "A Star is Born" moment.

"I've been saying to people, the dumbest version of this is like MUNA is my Lady Gaga, and this is my “Star is Born” moment. This record is more like me at home and the rest of my life," she said.

She further continued:

"It involves stuff about my pets and stuff about my family and stuff about beautiful relationships that didn't work out and bad relationships that I've really needed to learn to let go of and forgive people."

Gavin has released two singles from her album, Aftertaste and Casual Drug Use, with accompanying music videos. What a Relief will also include a collaboration with Mitski in the song As Good As It Gets.

More about MUNA

The three members of MUNA met as students at the University of Southern California in 2013. The band signed a record deal with RCA and released its debut album About U in 2017. This was followed by its second album Saves the World in 2019.

However, in 2020, RCA dropped the band for "not making enough money." Following this, the band signed with Phoebe Bridgers and released its third studio album in 2022. The self-titled LP featured its hit song Silk Chiffon featuring Bridgers.
