Pusha T showed his support for Kendrick Lamar following the announcement that Lamar would perform at the 2025 Super Bowl LIX halftime show. On September 8, 2024, Lamar took to social media to share the news that he would headline the Super Bowl, set to take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9, 2025.

In his announcement video, Lamar stated:

"You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship — no round twos."

Many assumed the quip was directed at Drake, who recently stated he was ready for "Game 2" on his social media. Drake and Lamar were engaged in a months-long diss battle, which ended when the latter released the track Not Like Us on May 4, widely regarded as his victory.

Pusha T, who also has a long-standing feud with Drake, reshared Lamar's Super Bowl announcement quote on his Instagram stories, adding the text, "This is true..." which many perceived to be another diss against Drake.

Kendrick Lamar name-dropped Pusha T in his Drake diss track Euphoria

The long-standing feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake escalated in 2024 when Lamar appeared on the Metro Boomin and Future track Like That. The track, released as a part of the duo's We Don't Trust You album, targeted J. Cole and Drake for their collaborative song First Person Shooter.

Following this, Drake released two back-to-back diss tracks, Push Ups and Taylor Made Freestyle, in April. Lamar fired back with his six-minute track Euphoria, in which he accused the Canadian rapper of being a culture vulture, a deadbeat dad, and a master manipulator. He also referenced Drake's 2018 feud with Pusha T, rapping:

"Yeah, f**k all that pushin' P, let me see you push a T/ You better off spinnin' again on him, you think about pushin' me/ He's Terrence Thornton, I'm Terence Crawford, yeah, I'm whoopin' feet."

Lamar asked Drake to address his beef with Pusha T, whose real name is Terrence Thornton, before coming after him. He also compared himself to professional undefeated boxer Terence Crawford.

In May 2018, Pusha T and Drake were embroiled in a diss battle that originated in 2012. On May 25, Drake released Duppy Freestyle, where he mentioned Pusha T's fiancée by name. Four days later, Pusha T responded with The Story of Adidon, shocking the rap world with an exposé that Drake has a son with Sophie Brussaux, a French adult actress, whom he was hiding from the world.

Pusha T rapped in The Story of Adidon:

"Since you name-dropped my fiancée/ Let 'em know who you chose as your Beyoncé/ Sophie knows better as your baby mother/ Cleaned her up for IG, but the stench is on her/ A baby's involved, it's deeper than rap/ We talkin' character, let me keep with the facts/ You are hiding a child, let that boy come home/ Deadbeat mothaf**ka playin' border patrol, ooh/ Adonis is your son."

In 2019, Drake accepted defeat when he appeared on the Rap Radar Podcast. He said he "bowed out" of the battle, calling his feud with Pusha T his "first loss" in his rap career.

Kendrick Lamar called rap music "the most impactful genre" in a statement

Kendrick Lamar vowed to show the world why rap music is known for its impact with his Super Bowl halftime performance.

“Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one,” he said in a statement.

Kendrick Lama previously appeared as a guest in the 2022 halftime show with artists like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J Blige, and 50 Cent, performing Humble and Alright. The Pulitzer Prize winner follows in the footsteps of Usher, who headlined 2024's halftime performance, and Rihanna, the headliner of 2023's halftime performance.

It is unclear if Lamar will be joined by other artists. According to AP News, the Super Bowl halftime performance will be hosted by Roc Nation and Apple Music. Roc Nation founder Jay-Z applauded Lamar for his deep love for hip-hop, saying:

“His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”

Kendrick Lamar's last performance was at his pop out show in Inglewood, California, on Juneteenth. The show, live-streamed by Amazon Prime, saw the rapper perform most of his Drake diss tracks live for the first time.
