On July 17, an alleged fan of Kanye West leaked the apparent upcoming album of rapper Big Sean, a day after the latter seemingly dissed the former on his freestyle rap On the Radar.
The unidentified person with the handle @bigseandon811 went online and put out 14 songs claiming that those comprised Big Sean’s unfinished album until a few months back.
“Since he wanna disrespect Ye so much, here’s the album. F*ck him and his whole team,” the netizen wrote.
He also claimed that Big Sean’s upcoming album featured Lil Nas X, Jhene Aiko, and The Dream, among others and its alternative title was Better Me Than You. Not only that but the leaker alleged that it was Kanye West who asked him to leak the same and revealed that Sean’s lead single Precision was on the album but not on the leaked files.
In response to this, Big Sean dropped a teaser of his latest collaboration with DJ, rapper, and hip-hop producer The Alchemist.
“Might as well start droppin, before they leak it all, got damn. BIG SEAN x THE ALCHEMIST soon,” Big Sean captioned his post on X.
In the wake of this ensuing drama, the internet has been having diverse reactions.
For instance, an X user said this was the ideal way to respond.
“This is the only way to respond,” a fan wrote.
Fans of the Detroit rapper even lauded the way he handled the situation and responded enthusiastically to his collab with The Alchemist.
“Pressure make diamonds. Sean coming with it on this one THEY just mad they can’t stop it. ALL HITS NO MISSES,” one fan wrote.
“Crisis management,” an individual wrote.
Others claimed that it was going to be a good year for Sean.
“I think it’s Sean Don season,” another individual wrote.
“This new album is going straight #1 once it’s out,” another fan wrote.
Some netizens even shared that they would wait for the official launch of his new album.
“Sorry that happened. I’ll wait for the official release,” a netizen wrote.
“I ain’t listening to no leak. I’ll just wait,” another netizen wrote.
“D*mn, now I gotta listen to a whole Sean project. Thanks AI,” a person wrote.
Exploring the controversy surrounding Big Sean’s On the Radar freestyle
On July 16, Big Sean unveiled a freestyle rap titled On the Radar. Initially, it began trending online for seemingly throwing shots at rapper and songwriter Kendrick Lamar.
“I had to switch the home team ‘cause they committed treason/ … N*ggas looking for engagement like they got their knee bent/ I got better things to do than find someone to beef with…” Big Sean rapped.
Fans of K-Dot speculated that the freestyle was a shade on him in the wake of his recent infamous rap battle with Canadian rapper Drake.
However, DJ Hed, a close associate of Sean later took to X and claimed that he “talked” to the Control rapper and could confirm that the “bar” was not directed at Kendrick Lamar but “at a different Gemini” rapper.
Gemini here perhaps referred to the zodiac sign. Turns out both Kendrick and Kanye share the same zodiac being born on June 17 and June 8 respectively.
Upon this revelation, the internet began speculating that On the Radar was a shade of Kanye West, especially with respect to the lines, “Man, this industry is terrible, I can’t even vouch / I’ve seen grown men get matching tattoos for the clout,” that may have been a dig at Ye, Steve Lacy, and Lil Uzi Vert getting matching tattoos in 2022.
Sean and Ye had been longtime friends and associates before turning into rivals. They began collaborating when the former was signed by the latter to his G.O.O.D. Music label and the duo often featured in each other’s songs and albums.
However, later, they parted ways with Ye appearing on the TV program Drink Champs in 2021 and calling Sean out publicly. He claimed that he regretted signing Big Sean to his label referring to it as the “worst decision ” he ever made.
Later, when the Finally Famous hitmaker appeared on the same show, he said at first Ye’s comments seemed “hilarious” but he later took it personally. He also claimed that Ye owed him $6 million as well as his masters.
However, as recently as last month, the relationship between Kanye West and Big Sean appeared to have improved when the latter previewed a collab with the former and hinted that it would feature on the supergroup ¥$’s (founded by Ye and Ty Dolla Sign) upcoming studio album Vultures 2.
Notably, Sean did not mention either Kendrick Lamar or Kanye West by name in his latest freestyle rap. Instead, he name-dropped media personality Dr. Umar Johnson and rapper and record producer Metro Boomin.
