Singer and record producer Lionel Richie spoke about his daughter, Nicole Richie, and her friend, Paris Hilton’s return to reality TV. After the finale of ABC’s American Idol on May 19, 2024, Lionel Richie had a chit-chat session with Entertainment Tonight where he teased the comeback of the friends' duo with a Peacock show. He stated:
"They haven't changed. Let me tell you something, those two scare me just standing next to each other. And I don't know if the world knows this, they started this mess, and I was the first guinea pig daddy to go along with this."
For the unversed, Nicole and Paris had appeared on a show called The Simple Life 20 years back. Talking about their bond, Lionel Richie added:
“When they first started doing things like driving down the freeway backwards I kept saying, 'What are you guys doing?' They'd say 'It's reality television, Dad!' And now these two are back together, oh my god, world, hang on to your seat. Thank god I'm older and my medication will get me through this next phase of our lives."
Richie’s statement came just after Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie gave a glimpse of their new project a week back. The duo shared a video on Instagram which showed a TV with heavy static audio, and they were shouting “Sanasa, Sanasa.”
Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton’s new reality show: Details revealed as Lionel Richie talks about the duo's comeback
As American Idol judge Lionel Richie spoke about Paris and Nicole’s return to reality TV, he concluded by stating how “happy” he was for both of them. On the other hand, the duo teased their new Peacock show on Instagram on May 13, 2014. They captioned the post as:
“New Era. Same Besties."
After this announcement, fans began anticipating whether the new show will be a reboot version of The Simple Life, which aired from 2003 to 2007.
However, the two have not given any confirmation regarding the same. During an interview with Good Morning America on May 15, 2024, Nicole Richie spoke about the upcoming show:
"It’s been 20 years since Paris and I worked together. We wanted to celebrate that. I can’t tell you too much right now, but we’ve worked together to create something very special and exciting. I can’t wait for it to come out.”
The Simple Life was a 2003 reality TV show. In the show, Paris and Nicole left behind their starry life and started doing low-paying jobs like farm work, serving at a restaurant, cleaning, etc. The episodes showed them leaving their phones, credit cards, and everything else as they moved in with a family in Altus, Arkansas for a whole month.
The first season aired on December 2, 2003, while the last installment ran from May 2007 to August 2007. The show was nominated for many awards and has won plenty of accolades including the Fox Reality Awards in 2009.
