On August 8, 2024, The U.S. Sun exclusively obtained bodycam footage of Travis Scott's arrest in Miami after the rapper was removed from a yacht on June 20, 2024. Scott was apprehended by the Miami Beach Police Department at around 1:45 am on suspicion of trespassing and intoxication.
In one clip from the bodycam footage, Travis Scott, escorted from the yacht by police officers, spoke about getting into a minor disagreement with the rented boat's owner.
In the second clip, Scott was standing on the road surrounded by more than three police officers, who questioned why he returned to the yacht after being asked to leave. The footage also showed the rapper's arrest.
Bradford Cohen, his attorney, said in a statement at that time:
"Mr. Scott was briefly detained due to a misunderstanding. There was absolutely no physical altercation involved, and we thank the authorities for working with us towards a swift and amicable resolution."
The bodycam footage came just hours after the rapper was arrested in Paris after an alleged fight with his bodyguard outside the George V luxury hotel on August 9. Scott was in the city for the Team USA vs. Serbia basketball match in the 2024 Olympics.
The rapper is reportedly spending his night in a jail cell "sobering up" as he was allegedly intoxicated during the altercation.
Details of Travis Scott's Miami arrest and bodycam footage explored
According to the BBC, police officers responded to a report of a fight in a yacht at Miami Beach Marina on June 20, 2024. When they arrived at the marina, they found Travis Scott and his team at the scene. Officers reported they could "sense a strong smell of alcohol" emanating from the rapper.
The newly obtained bodycam footage showed the officers talking to Travis Scott by the marina, where the rapper claimed he rented the yacht for $20,000. Scott added the boat's owner kicked down the bedroom room just before midnight, which he deemed disrespectful.
He also said the owner, his wife, and the captain remained on the yacht and alleged the woman was carrying a type of firearm.
Following this, police asked Travis Scott and his team to leave the area, which he did. However, a second clip showed the rapper attempting to return to the boat after a few minutes, claiming to have left some of his belongings in the vessel.
Police can be heard asking the rapper why he said he had taken all his belongings when they first questioned him, to which Scott responded he was shaken up at being surrounded by police officers. The argument continued for a few minutes before an officer pulled out a pair of handcuffs and arrested the rapper.
"You're really gonna lock me up after I was trying to get my bag?" Scott can be heard saying during the arrest.
Travis Scott faced charges of "disorderly intoxication and trespassing." In a hearing on August 8, his disorderly intoxication charges were dropped. His trial for the trespassing charges is scheduled for September 10, 2024.
