Trina recently opened up about her relationship with her husband and their financial situation post-marriage. The rapper appeared on the All Things Keyshia Ka'oir podcast on October 19, 2024, to promote her recently released memoir Da Baddest, which came out on October 8.
Trina recently married Benjamin Leon Kearse Jr. in a private ceremony in May 2024. In the podcast, the rapper revealed that she and her husband were still in the honeymoon stage of their relationship, adding she was "internally happy."
When host Keyshia Ka'oir asked her if she signed a prenup before their marriage, the rapper revealed that her husband brings all his money to her, adding she was in charge of their finances.
“I didn’t. My husband brings all of his money to me, so I’m in charge. He can’t spend a dime without my consent. He can’t spend a dime for nothing unless it goes through me,” she said.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Trina is reportedly worth $6 million, amassed through her career as a rapper and television personality. Her husband, Benjamin Leon Kearse Jr., also known as Swurv, is a real estate agent.
Trina on her views about starting a family with her husband
Speaking on the podcast, Trina added that her marriage to Swurv made her rethink her stance about having children. The 45-year-old singer added, "Now would be the time" if they wanted to have kids, saying:
“We talk about it a lot. Now would be the time. I’ve been through the whole process of having a kid before, had a miscarriage, it didn’t work. It was the most terrifying thing.”
The rapper previously experienced a miscarriage when she was dating Lil Wayne between 2005 and 2007. The pair had been engaged but broke up before they tied the knot in 2007.
In an October interview with the Tamron Hall Show, Trina revealed that her miscarriage put her in a dark mental space, compounded by losing her brother in 2013. The rapper, who wrote about her grief in her memoir, said she was unable to grieve the loss of her child at the time, adding:
“I would cry on the road, I would cry on the tour bus, I would cry in a hotel, but I would have to hit the stage that night. I would have to get on a plane that morning, I would have to do whatever I was doing. So it was something that you kind of like swept under the rug. I was so young and I was just, I was hurt.”
She said that her miscarriage left her questioning her beliefs, which led to her blaming herself for the loss. Her 19-year-old brother's fatal shooting added to her grief.
The rapper revealed that her life felt dark till recently, adding her brother's death left her "disconnected from the world." She suffered two more losses after her brother's death. Her mother died in 2019 after battling cancer, and her 17-year-old niece died in a shooting in 2022.
Born Katrina Laverne Taylor, Trina's rap career began after she collaborated with Trick Daddy on the single Nann N***a in 1998. She released her debut album, Da Baddest B**ch, in 2000, which was met with critical acclaim and was certified gold in November of that year.
Trina has since released five other albums, the latest of which was The One in 2019. In addition to her rap career, she has starred in the reality show Love & Hip Hop: Miami since 2018.
