Donald Trump's ex-communication director recently revealed that the former President wanted rapper Kanye West to host a church service on the White House lawns to "unite the country" during his term.

In the July 23 (Tuesday) episode of Andy Cohen's podcast Watch What Happens Live, Trump's ex-communication director, Alyssa Farah Griffin, was asked to narrate the "wildest" experience she had while working for Trump. In response, she recalled one of Trump's bizarre ideas featuring Kanye West.

“This is going to be dark. To be honest, one day he wanted to have Kanye West come and do a church service on the White House lawn to ‘unify the country,’ and I can think of few things less unifying than that. We were like, ‘Not the time or place, sir.’”

Alyssa Griffin served as the White House communications director between April 2020 to December 2020. After resigning, she permanently joined The View as a host in 2022.

Kanye West famously endorsed Donald Trump when he fought the Presidential elections in 2016. The rapper posed with the former president at Trump Tower in New York City before a private meeting.

He was also invited to the White House in 2018 during Trump's presidency and donned a "Make America Great Again" hat for years after that. However, in 2020, Ye claimed that no longer supported Donald Trump.

Back in 2020, Kanye West took to X to announce that he would run for President. Ye's multi-million dollar presidential campaign was reportedly funded by the rapper himself, according to HuffPost.

However, Kanye's campaign was a major failure, as he garnered only 60,000 votes. President Joe Biden came to power in 2020 following a win from the Democrats.

In an interview with Forbes following his announcement in 2020, West revealed that he no longer supported Donald Trump, despite endorsing him in the 2016 presidential elections. The rapper also mentioned in an interview with Forbes he was taking his "red hat" off, referring to his MAGA (Make America Great Again) red hat that he sported during his 2018 White House speech.

“I am taking the red hat off, with this interview.”

Kanye West also revealed the reason for sporting his MAGA red hat and said,

“One of the main reasons I wore the red hat as a protest to the segregation of votes in the Black community. Also, other than the fact that I like Trump hotels and the saxophones in the lobby.”

The rapper further mentioned in his interview that he was upset with Trump because he "hid in his presidential bunker" when anti-racism protests broke out in Washington, DC. He said that Trump's administration looked like a "big mess" to him. Explaining why he supported the former president earlier, Ye said,

“Trump is the closest president we’ve had in years to allowing God to still be part of the conversation.”

Kanye West also criticized President Joe Biden in his interview, who was then contesting the 2020 elections against Trump. The rapper claimed he was "not special". He mentioned,

“I’m not saying Trump’s in my way, he may be a part of my way. And Joe Biden? Like come on man, please. You know? Obama’s special. Trump’s special. We say Kanye West is special. America needs special people that lead. Bill Clinton? Special. Joe Biden’s not special.”

On being asked which political side he would endorse in his presidential run, Ye made it clear he would run as a "Republican if Trump wasn't there."

However, he contested as an independent candidate as Trump was the Republican candidate. During his infamous presidential campaign, Kanye West's ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, and billionaire Elon Musk endorsed him publicly.

After Ye's unsuccessful presidential campaign, Trump criticized West, claiming he had "loony tendencies" in an exclusive talk with political commentator Mollie Hemingway. However, the rapper was spotted having dinner with Donald Trump in 2022, despite the former president's statements.

Kanye West shared his thoughts on the Democrats after running for president in 2020

In his 2020 interview with Forbes, Kanye West also made bold claims about the Democrats. The rapper was asked whether his running for President would segregate the votes of the Black people.

In response, Ye claimed that it was a form of "racism and white supremacy" to claim that all Black people should vote for the Democrats. He also claimed that the Democrats "threatened him" and revealed that the reason he never registered himself as a voter was because he was "scared."

"The reason why this is the first day I registered to vote is because I was scared. I was told that if I voted on Trump my music career would be over. I was threatened into being in one party. I was threatened as a celebrity into being in one party. I was threatened as a Black man into the Democratic party."

In other news, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will reportedly debate the potential Democratic candidate Kamala Harris this summer, per HuffPost.
