Drake is seemingly trying to distance himself from fellow rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs after the latter was arrested on charges of "racketeering, s*x trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution", on September 16. Diddy is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center after being denied bail twice.
On September 23, the Canadian rapper reportedly took to his Instagram burner account named Plottwist, to post two back-to-back memes from the 2015 Ryan Gosling film, The Big Short. In the scene, Gosling's character, Jared Vennett, says:
"I never hung out with these idiots after work, ever. I had fashion friends."
Fans have been speculating whether the meme has been directed at Diddy, after rumors arose that several rappers took part in his "freak offs." Many wondered if the 6 God was trying to denounce any connection to Diddy after being friendly with him, with one person tweeting:
Many wondered if the rapper was trying to shift people's attention towards Diddy, referring to Drake facing accusations of allegedly being a p*dophile, amid his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar.
"Bro didn’t even need Diddy," one person commented.
"Drake will keep taking Ls into 2026 because after Diddy he’s Next," another person added.
"Lmao Surviving Drake & Diddy hung out all the time," someone else wrote.
"Basically saying: I didn't join their s*x offender ring I started my own," another user claimed.
Others pointed out that the two rappers had been photographed together multiple times.
"Isn’t there video of them on instagram live in 2020 and them singing together taking the mic away from him?" one person questioned.
"Liar Liar," another person said.
"Them n****s was on live together and possibly hung out overseas," someone else added.
"This is a lie. I’m not saying he attended the freak off but we know he has hung out with Diddy and friends lol," another netizen commented.
Diddy and Drake were involved in an alleged altercation in 2014
Diddy and Drizzy allegedly had a physical altercation at DJ Khaled's birthday party in Miami, in December 2014. DJ Sam Sneak, who was reportedly at the party, claimed that the Canadian rapper ended up in the hospital with a dislocated shoulder. This incident was referenced in Kendrick Lamar's diss Euphoria.
However, Diddy denied hitting the Canadian rapper when he appeared in an interview at The Breakfast Club in August 2015.
"I did not put hands on Drake and I do not want any problems with Drake. Drake is…right now. That’s all I have to say. He’s putting in his work," Diddy said.
The two rappers also clashed after Diddy accused Drake of stealing the beat of his track 0 to 100. Footage of Diddy making this claim circulated on social media after the alleged fight.
Drizzy responded to this accusation on Instagram, saying people were either "talking s**t about you or stealing the s**t you're talking." Diddy also addressed the incident during his 2015 The Breakfast Club interview.
“Yeah, '0-100' was initially a record that was my record and somehow it became a misunderstanding because he was working with the same producers. Honestly, Drake is my favorite rapper as far as songwriting and albums… It wasn’t anything that was that big of a deal at the end of the day," he said.
In 2016, the Canadian rapper released 4PM in Calabasas. Many fans speculated whether the track fired subliminal shots towards Diddy, after the former incorporated Diddy's catchphrase "Take that, take that" into the song.
However, the two rappers seemingly buried the hatchet after Diddy accepted the 2016 VMA for Best Hip-Hop Video for Hotline Bling on Drizzy's behalf.
In other news, Diddy's next hearing will be on October 9, 2024. The rapper pled not guilty to all charges but was denied bail twice.
