'U Guessed It' Rapper OG Maco passes away at 32 after weeks in the hospital

U Guessed It rapper OG Maco passed away at the age of 32 after being hospitalized for a still undisclosed reason. His family confirmed his death in a statement shared via his official Instagram account on Friday, December 27, 2024. It partly read:

"With heavy hearts, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Ben, known to the world as OG Maco."

His family's message also looked back to his life, which they said was a "testament to resilience, creativity, and boundless love," and his music, which "touched so many lives and left a lasting impact." It also encouraged fans, friends, and supporters to reach out to his account if they wanted to offer their condolences, share memories of the rapper, or connect with his family.

Meanwhile, OG Maco's manager, Poppa Perc, wrote, "We lost a legend last night," on his Instagram story on Friday, December 27.

There has been no confirmed cause of death revealed or any confirmed reason why the rapper was taken to the hospital. However, news that OG Maco was hospitalized came out on December 13 after Poppa Perc told AllHipHop that the rapper allegedly shot himself. He also told the outlet that OG Maco appeared dead when he first saw him, this caused an online chatter and rumors about his death circulated online. However, Poppa Perc later confirmed that Maco was alive but in a "critical condition."

The rapper's family also clarified the rumors of his death in a statement on X via his account. After his death hoax went viral, his family released a statement on December 15 saying that he was "currently in critical but stable condition" and that he "continues to fight." They also reiterated that his official accounts will be the "only source for valid information."


OG Maco faced health issues for years before his death

While it remains unclear what led to OG Maco's death, or if there was any truth about him shooting himself as his manager initially said, the rapper had faced health problems for years. He got candid about his "skin-eating disease" in March 2019 by sharing a series of pictures and videos on his Instagram stories, per People.

The rapper showed a closer look at the immense scabbing on most of his face and scalp, saying:

"So much healing has a [sic] occurred thanks to God and my doctors that I'm willing to show all a fraction of what I've been going through. I was improperly treated for a minor rash and ended up with a skin-eating disease for the last few months."

He also revealed at the time that he was battling the issue "alone 90% of the time" and without the support of the person he loves. He also alluded to girlfriends and lovers, as well as friends, leaving someone at their worst.


For those unaware, OG Maco has been in the music business since 2011 but became more prominent when he released his single U Guessed It in 2014. So far, the rapper has only released one studio album, The God of Rage, which came out in 2021.
