Argentinian authorities are intensifying their investigation into the tragic death of Liam Payne and are now planning to interview his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. Liam Payne, the former One Direction singer, passed away on October 16, 2024, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. Cassidy, who was with the singer in the days leading up to his death, left Argentina two days before the fatal incident.
According to the New York Post article published on December 25, authorities have reached out to Cassidy, requesting her to provide a witness statement that could shed light on the events surrounding Payne’s death. Officials also clarified that the 25-year-old influencer is not under suspicion of any wrongdoing.
However, they believe her input could offer valuable context regarding Payne’s stay at the hotel and the circumstances leading to his untimely demise.
Kate Cassidy’s role in the investigation
Kate Cassidy has expressed her willingness to cooperate with the authorities. As per the New York Post, a friend close to her revealed,
"She’s going to help in any way she can. She wants the right people to be brought to justice, and if that takes her answering their questions, she’s going to do it."
The friend further added that Kate Cassidy was deeply affected by Payne’s struggles with substance abuse and his tragic death.
"She tried for a long time to help him get clean, and is still haunted by what happened. Anyone who provided drugs to Liam should be prosecuted, she says," the friend told the publication.
Liam Payne, 31, fell to his death from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. According to an autopsy report, he had a toxic mix of drugs in his system, including crack cocaine and "pink cocaine," which is a dangerous combination of ketamine and other substances.
The investigation has already led to the charging of three individuals by Argentinian police. The suspects face accusations of "abandonment of a person followed by death" and "supply and facilitation of narcotics," as per the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14.
One of the accused is Rogelio "Roger" Nores, a close friend of Payne who reportedly spent significant time with him during his stay in Buenos Aires. Another suspect, Braian Nahuel Paiz, a former waiter at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, is accused of selling drugs to Payne, although he denies the allegations.
The third individual, described as a "drug supplier," is alleged to have provided substances to Payne on October 14, just two days before the singer's death.
Authorities believe Kate Cassidy's statement could help establish a clearer timeline of events during Payne’s final days. They hope she can provide additional insights into his interactions and activities at the hotel, which could further strengthen their case against the suspects. As per the New York Post, Cassidy's friend further added:
"She’s happy that they’re taking this investigation very seriously. Because this has devastated countless people, and if she can help in any way, she will do it. It’s the least she can do."
Amid the ongoing investigation, Kate Cassidy recently reflected on the weight of grief during the holiday season on her Instagram stories. She shared a heartfelt message acknowledging the duality of joy and sorrow during this time of year. Cassidy expressed her hope for comfort and peace for those grappling with loss, resonating with the sentiments of many mourning Payne’s tragic passing.
