American R&B singer Ari Lennox has a debt to pay off to the IRS. She reportedly revealed in an Instagram live session she had an enormous tax bill to clear and for that, she would do anything. When asked whether she would release a diss album against the IRS, she replied negatively and said that the federal tax collecting agency had been lenient with her. She mentioned the IRS didn’t take anything away from her.

“Absolutely not. They have been gentle with me and didn’t take anything of mine. So, I will not be starting a beef with them. We do not have no beef. I am paying them back,” Ari Lennox said.

Ari Lennox is originally from Washington, DC. Once she is done paying off her debt, she plans to start saving till she retires. She said,

“I’m just gonna tell y’all my business. I need to pay this IRS. The strange things I’m gonna do for change, just so I can just break even. I’m gonna crazy and then we start anew.”

Previously, other artists had failed to pay off, resulting in legal actions being taken against them. In 2011, rapper Ja Rule failed to file tax returns with the IRS, as he did not pay taxes for five years. He was eventually sentenced to prison for 28 months. His debt was over $1.1 million.

Ari Lennox’s debut studio album came out in 2019

On September 9, 2022, Ari Lennox released her second album age/sex/location. The singer’s debut studio album Shea Butter Baby came out in May 2019 and ranked seventh on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart. She was signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville Records in 2015. With Pho EP, the singer made her commercial debut on the record label in 2016, which gave her immense recognition.

Ari Lennox started sharing her music much before all of this in 2012. Her debut mixtape Five Finger Discount came out in 2013. In 2015, she was featured in Omen’s Sweat It Out. The singer also appeared beside Cozz on the track Backseat from the Grammy-nominated collaborative album Revenge of the Dreamers III. Her latest releases, Get Close and My Phone Can Die, were quite popular in 2023.

Reportedly, the singer was going through a period of sobriety in 2023. The Economic Times released a report on December 20, 2023, and mentioned that Ari Lennox started her journey to sobriety on December 18, 2022. According to her, alcohol served only as a coping mechanism and a means to escape from reality.

The report mentions an Instagram post in which the singer looked back at her 7 months of sobriety journey. She reflected on how abstaining from alcohol helped her, while also mentioning her fear of flying. However, the post, which showcased her journey towards sober flights and conversations surrounding her healing process, was taken down in 2023 itself.
