More details on Rihanna’s Dior J’Adore commercial
The J’Adore commercial was shot by photographer Steven Klein, a friend of Rihanna’s, and the location was the Palace of Versailles, near Paris. The official commercial video comes after Riri posted teasers for fans on August 29, 30, and 31, 2024.
In the commercial for the latest version of J’Adore, the L’Or Essence de Parfum, Rihanna is seen ascending the steps of the great hall in a custom black monochrome Dior ensemble consisting of a jacket, skirt, leather gloves, and a belt for a cinched waist.
Her black sandals, shades, and cap, complement the fashionable look. The singer transitions into a golden aesthetic as she glides down the halls in a gold sequined dress, a beaded choker reminiscent of the J’Adore bottle, and a matching bracelet.
Her honey-blonde hair and subtle golden makeup accentuate the golden visuals. Her hit track, Love On The Brain, from the Anti album, serves as the theme music and adds a romantic tone to the video.
In an interview with Harpers Bazaar published on September 1, 2024, Klein narrated the process of shooting the commercial:
"I wanted to create a visual dialogue between the classical style of the 18th century and Rihanna’s incredibly contemporary beauty. This film invents a new universe that bridges several worlds and several eras and manages to achieve a natural and radiant universal appeal.”
Riri, who had previously worked with Dior for the Secret Garden campaign in 2015, also spoke with Vogue on August 16, 2024, on the significance of using the Versailles halls for the commercial:
“It is a dream in gold. J'Adore is closely connected to gold, through its color, its bottle, and its image. Nowhere else in the world could you be surrounded by as much gold as at Versailles."
The latest version of the J’Adore perfume, J’Adore L’Or was designed by Francis Kurkdjian and maintains the floral notes of the original but with a higher concentration and an addition of orange blossom.
